Inspiring Conversations with Tanya Scott of Cealle Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Scott.

Tanya Scott

Hi Tanya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a self-taught artist who has always loved being creative. I’m the Owner and Creative Director for Cealle Creative – A (Direct to Customer) online luxury silk scarf company based in New York.

I was inspired to develop Cealle one summer visiting my grandmother. One afternoon I decided to take a few still-life images near my grandmother’s home as well as a few of my grandmother. Around the same time, I also started documenting stories my grandmother shared about growing up in Alabama. Once back in NY, I found myself going through pictures and replaying the stories my grandmother shared. It was in that moment in time something magical happened. An idea formalized clearly, and Cealle was born!

I’ve worked in the fashion industry for over twenty-five years. I have a strong fashion sense and a creative eye. I have exceptional and diverse skills that cross over various categories of fashion. Cealle is my second business venture as an entrepreneur. I successfully owned and operated a women’s boutique, The Powderoom in Pelham, Westchester. Over the years, I’ve acquired a strong professional networking circle consisting of past clientele, colleagues, and major global industry leaders.

My mother was my first beauty & fashion icon; however, it was during the mid 80’s that I learned of “The Fashion Industry”. I was inspired to design women’s apparel after reading an article about American Designer Issac Mizrahi in The New Yorker Magazine. That article forever changed my life. The experience would ultimately help define my life’s purpose, and that is to create “Beautiful Things”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since I have a full-time job and run my own business simultaneously. I’d say managing “Time” can be tricky. Finding the time to create new content, designs, etc. while being employed is mastery for sure. Some additional challenges would be managing the nuances of marketing. Managing web traffic, and creating more brand awareness without a dedicated marketing team definitely presents a challenge at times. It has been smooth because I’m doing what I love to do. When you work in your passion, you feel the challenges but you press on anyway – you press on “Without Fail”.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Cealle Creative offers silk scarf designs created from original artwork and photography. Each scarf is packaged in a custom green box and is paired with a short story- that brings our rich designs to life. Our short stories come from the pages of my journal or personal life experiences. What sets Cealle apart from other companies is the intimacy of the brand and the personal relationships we are able to forge with each customer. I’m proud to say we are a people-first company that delivers a top-notch product and customer service experience.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
When first posed this question, a few people came to mind.  The one person who sticks out would be Sarah Hand – Creative Design Director. Sarah and I worked together many years ago for Tommy HilfigerMen’s Tailored Clothing division. Within five minutes of reconnecting, Sarah encouraged me to – Just Do It! Prior to meeting my old friend/colleague, I was apprehensive about going live with my business.  That night after meeting Sarah, I went home and created my first post. It was her belief in not only me but my idea that helped me move with faith despite of fear!

I’d say it was my first customers, clients who pre-sold from me when all I had were pictures of product. These initial sales truly fueled me and continue to be a daily motivating factor.
