Hi Tashiya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all began during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when I found myself juggling the demands of working as a customer service representative at Teleperformance with the challenges of caring for my baby. The long hours and inability to balance both responsibilities sparked a desire in me to find a way to stay at home with my child while still earning an income.
One day, while scrolling through YouTube, I stumbled upon a video by Yolanda from How to Cake It. I was immediately captivated by her talent and creativity. Inspired, I decided to try my hand at baking a cake. Gathering ingredients, I created a small pink cake adorned with pearls. The process and result sparked a passion in me that I hadn’t anticipated.
My early creations may not have been perfect, but my background in art and natural enthusiasm for baking propelled me forward. With each cake I made, I felt myself improving and experimenting with new designs and techniques. The support and encouragement I received from those around me fueled my momentum.
Looking back, the pandemic was the catalyst that led me to discover this new passion. It pushed me to explore a creative outlet that brought me joy and allowed me to stay at home with my baby. The journey of mastering the art of cake decorating has been rewarding and challenging, but the support of my initial followers has been the driving force behind my progress.
Today, as I reflect on the journey of building Lavishly Sweet and Treats, I am filled with gratitude and excitement for the future. The name of my business encapsulates the essence of my creations – lavish, sweet, and a treat for the eyes as much as the taste buds. While there is always room for growth and improvement, I am proud of how far I’ve come and look forward to continuing to create beautiful works of art through cake.
The pandemic may have presented many challenges, but for me, it also sparked a new passion and career path. I am forever grateful for that initial spark of inspiration and to everyone who has supported me along the way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With every journey comes an obstacle. Though the road was not smooth, I was able to pave the way. My biggest struggles were creating and perfecting signature recipes and being consistent in the taste, structure, and design of my desserts. It took me 3 years to finally get the recipes right, and now many of my clients love the final result of their desserts. I wish I had perfect my recipes before starting my business. Another huge and impactful challenge is marketing and networking, which is very important for all businesses, and I’m currently working on marketing skills. All in all, I’m so glad that I was able to learn and overcome part of my struggles.
There have been so many times I wanted to quit, but because of my support system, I was able to pull through! My very top supporters were my mother, Tashma David, who helped me many times in carrying out orders at the very last minute. She has been there with every close call, and I could proudly say she has saved my business integrity many times! Clients, friends, and family members also helped share and spread the word about Lavishly Made Sweets & Treats! Tasheba King, Bathsheba Prince, Mkali Bailey, Latonya Smittie, Loshawn King, Deyonca King, just to name a few. Everyone who has shared, commented, and liked my work; I love and appreciate every one of them! All in all, my knowledge, skills, and, most importantly, my supporters have helped Lavishly Made Sweets & Treats get where we are today!

I am known for my exquisite and decadent custom-designed cakes and treats. My attention to detail and skill level sets me apart from others! I am most proud of my ability to now demonstrate my skill and love for art in my desserts! Lavishly Made Sweets & Treats specialize in custom design cakes, cupcakes, chocolate-covered strawberries, rice crispy treats, Oreos, pretzels, apples, cake pops, and many more!
