Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Guzzo.
Hi Tyler, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
All my life I’ve had a dream to start a business and leave a legacy for my family. As I grew older, I became more interested in health, fitness and physiology… After experiencing 3 (now 4) ACL tears, I spent a lot of time with my physical therapist. I realized that I wanted to learn more and pursue it as a career with hopes that one day maybe I would be able to find a business opportunity in it. As I grew in my career as a Physical Therapy professional, I realized that I wanted more freedom to make a great impact. So I began my physical therapy career in 2015 and in 2016 began my career as a part-time Personal Trainer at Gold’s Gym in Omaha, NE. I loved it so much that November of that year, I packed everything I owned into my Grey, 2009 Hyundai Sonata and moved to Davie, FL (suburb of Ft. Lauderdale). That’s when the real work began.
Funny enough, the halfway point was ATL Georgia where I stayed at a childhood friend’s home in DT ATL on my way to South Florida. I found a job working full-time at a clinic soon after arriving and two months later in January of 2017, I began building my business.
My schedule was TIGHT to say the least. I would wake up around 4 AM and spend a few hours planning events, making logos, responding to emails, programming nutrition and workouts. Afterward, I would train 1 on 1 client or boot camp classes before my “real job” from 10 AM – 7 PM M-F. Following my nine, sometimes 10-hour shift, I taught a boot camp class. After the first 1 1/2 years, I had built enough business to go part-time at the clinic and increase my training hours for my business. It wasn’t until August 20th of 2018 that I finally had made enough money consistently in my training business to leave my “9-5” and go full-time as an entrepreneur.
From that point, I realized that I wanted even more freedom and scalability. So I took my training skills and began creating an online program. I had a pretty good balance of in-person and online clients until the COVID 19 shutdowns began. At that point, I was well positioned with a library of content for online clients, a decent knowledge of how to run a proper online program and now 100% of clients needing to workout from home.
As you can imagine, my training inquiries skyrocketed. From the beginning of March of 2020 until now, we have operated 99% online with very few in-person clients. We have hired a small staff and put in place many systems to improve the delivery of our programs… We now work with clients from 18 different states/provinces including Georgia, NYC, Puerto Rico, California, to Alberta.
We continue to expand our reach through word of mouth and social media marketing with many plans to expand moving forward.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the biggest struggles were building an online presence, managing and training employees, and ultimately making a complete lifestyle change from being employed to self-employed holding all the responsibility.
As you know, we’re big fans of Guzzo Fitness Systems. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We focus on customized 1 on 1 fitness/nutrition programs that teach you how to eat foods that you enjoy without sabotaging your results. We also provide LIVE Virtual Beach Boot Camp Classes. So you not only get to workout without leaving your home but you get the personal instruction from a trainer lives with you and to top it off, you get a world-class ocean/beach view.
My company specializes in helping mothers who work 40+ hours a week to look and feel their best. What sets us apart is our supportive community that holds you accountable to achieving your goals. We have weekly group calls where you can ask me anything, a private community message board for everyone to share recipes, ideas, wins, struggles, etc.
Personally, I feel that I am known for my experience and background in Physical Therapy, and my own personal struggles with weight loss at a young age and overcoming that. As a brand, we focus on sustainability, which is why we encourage our clients to enjoy a social life and while teaching them the principles of health and fitness. This is so that they can live their life without stopping their progress as well as becoming self-sufficient in this process.
I’m most proud bout the various fundraisers we’ve held locally for the Women in Distress of Broward County (2017-2019) and the Kids in Distress of Broward County (2018-19).
I would like readers to understand how much time they spend in traffic waiting to go to the gym, the various diseases and viruses that exist in the gym environment, the lack of instruction, education, and support they will receive when purchasing a gym membership. Whereas we instruct our clients on the most effective nutrition practices, we offer support OUTSIDE the workouts and you can do your workouts from anywhere without any equipment – you just need internet.
How do you think about happiness?
Seeing my clients reach goals that they thought were unachievable before starting the program. It gives me a sense of purpose and passion.
