Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Wallace.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been living in Atlanta since 2018, originally from Savannah. I moved here to work in the film industry, where I spent several years in the paint department as a scenic artist and set painter. At the end of 2022, the show I worked on for several seasons was not renewed. While year-end is typically a slow period for the industry, work usually picks back up in the new year. However, 2023 was different. Even before the Writers’ Strike officially began in May, the uncertainty surrounding it had already caused a slowdown. Productions were hesitant to start, and work became increasingly scarce. When the Writers’ Strike began in May 2023, followed by the SAG-AFTRA strike in July, the slowdown intensified. Although the Writers’ Strike ended in September and the actors’ strike in November, the impact on the industry was deep and lasting.
I had sensed uncertainty as early as late 2022, realizing that a rough year was ahead for film workers. In January 2023, I founded Wallflower ATL, LLC—born partly out of necessity, but also out of a desire to find a new path. Initially, it wasn’t meant to be my “real job,” just something to keep me afloat while I figured out my next steps.
While I loved my time in the film industry, the lack of work-life balance and its instability made me start looking for something different. I wanted to hold onto the creativity I enjoyed so much, and I realized I had developed a lot of skills that could translate beautifully into residential work.
Creativity has always been at the core of who I am. I’ve been a maker for as long as I can remember, always drawn to the arts. I studied fine art, painting, and conceptual art at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and that background continues to shape my work today. Whether on a canvas, a set wall, or now in someone’s home, I bring the same eye for detail, color, and composition to everything I do.
My primary focus now is wallpaper installation, a craft I truly love. Wallpaper challenges me in all the right ways—it demands technical skill, patience, precision, and an unwavering attention to detail. I first learned the basics while working in the film industry, but since then, I’ve deepened my expertise through extensive research, practice, and a commitment to mastering the craft. Wallpaper installation is a natural fit for me; it taps into my drive for perfection and my love of thoughtful, meticulous work. Beyond the technical side, I simply love beautiful spaces and the thrill of a dramatic transformation. It’s incredibly rewarding to help make someone’s home feel more comfortable, vibrant, and joyful—a place they’re excited to exist in every day.
In addition to wallpaper installation, I also offer interior painting and color and design consultations. Through consultations, I help clients find the perfect wallpaper, choose complementary paint colors, and coordinate wall finishes with their home’s style, furniture, and overall aesthetic.
What started as a side project has continued to grow organically. I’ve been fortunate that clients have found me through word of mouth, referrals, and a shared appreciation for quality work. As Wallflower ATL has expanded naturally, I’ve come to take it much more seriously. It’s no longer just something I do to get by—it’s something I’m committed to building and growing for the long term. I’m excited to continue honing my craft, expanding my services, and helping even more people transform their spaces into something truly special.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve always struggled with self-promotion. Putting myself and my work out there hasn’t always come naturally, and managing my own business has definitely come with its share of growing pains. Learning how to keep my schedule organized, juggle multiple projects, and stay on top of everything behind the scenes has required a whole new level of time management and discipline.
It took me a while to feel like a “real” business owner—like someone who wasn’t just winging it—but over time, I started to see the growth and the momentum build. Now, after nearly two and a half years in business, Wallflower ATL is busier than ever, and the work keeps coming. It’s been a rewarding journey, watching something that started out of necessity turn into something real, sustainable, and fulfilling. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m excited to keep building on the foundation I’ve worked so hard to create.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Wallflower ATL, LLC is a small, independently owned business focused on transforming residential spaces through wallpaper installation, interior painting, and personalized design services. I specialize in detailed, high-quality wallpaper installation, with a strong emphasis on precision and craftsmanship. Wallpaper can be a challenging medium, but that’s part of why I love it—it demands focus, patience, and a true eye for detail.
One thing that sets Wallflower ATL apart is the creative background I bring to the work. I studied fine art and painting at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and later honed my skills as a scenic artist in the film industry. That experience taught me how to work both artistically and technically, which translates directly into the level of quality I bring to every project.
I’m most proud that Wallflower ATL has grown entirely through word-of-mouth and repeat clients. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that people recommend me not just because the work looks good, but because they trust me with their homes. I take that trust seriously. Every project is approached thoughtfully, with clear communication, respect for the client’s space, and a genuine passion for the transformation process.
At its core, Wallflower ATL is about helping people create spaces they love living in. Whether it’s installing a bold wallpaper mural or helping someone choose a paint palette that finally feels “right,” my goal is always to make the experience smooth, collaborative, and creatively fulfilling.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is doing work that feels meaningful—work that I can be proud of, and that genuinely improves someone’s day-to-day life. I believe our environments have a huge impact on how we feel, and being able to help someone love their space a little more is something I take seriously.
I also care a lot about doing things the right way, not the fast or easy way. Whether it’s making sure a wallpaper seam is perfectly aligned or helping a client find a paint color that actually feels right once it’s on the wall, I want every project to feel thoughtful and intentional.
At the end of the day, I want my work to be a reflection of the care, attention, and pride I put into it—and I want the people I work with to feel seen, heard, and excited about the spaces they live in.
