We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kevin R Davis. Check out our conversation below.
Kevin R, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My days are pretty much the same every day. Other than working my regular job, my day consist of meal prep, where I track my calories and macros, getting my workout and cardio in, and keeping up with my social media.
I promote new cover sales, cover reveals, book releases, and promote cover photos for sale with different cover photographers.
I also am working to branch out into fashion and commercial modeling, so I am working on developing connections in that area of modeling also.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been modeling a little over 6 years now. I didn’t do my first professional photo shoot until I was 50 years old.
At that time I was one year clean from meth addiction, and it was such a positive thing to have in my life, in recovery.
It put my life on a new path, and gave me a positive outlet to focus my time and energy on.
It also gave me something that I didn’t want to mess up, if I ever thought about using again.
As my brand and following started to really grow, I made it a point to use my platform to share my addiction/recovery story, and be the person that I needed to see when I was trapped in addiction.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Hitting rock bottom was the biggest turning point for me, that still drives me today.
I was jobless, homeless, and sleeping in my car, and then I was arrested for possession. That was my rock bottom.
As I sat in jail for 50 days, I really thought that my life was over, and I didn’t see anyway out of the mess I was in.
Little did I know, that it was my saving grace, and from that rock bottom I built an amazing new life.
Having a rock bottom perspective, you have nothing, and the only way is up.
Instead of focusing on things you don’t have, or worrying about losing what you have, you just focus on going after what you need and want…and you are so thankful and grateful for everything good that comes into your life.
You don’t have anything to lose, so you go after things that you were too afraid to go after, in the past.
Someone telling you No, is no longer something that keeps you from trying.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
My addiction really took hold of me when my chronic pain got really bad.
I have IBS-C, so pain pills constipate me too bad to take them for any period of time, so I looked for other ways to numb the pain. Meth became that drug.
Even though people knew I dealt with chronic pain and would have sympathized if I had an addiction to pain medicine, I had real shame about the fact that I was using meth, and thought people would only look at me as a junkie.
When I was able to finally share my truth, and all the things that caused me shame, it completely freed me and empowered me.
The fear of people finding out was no longer, and I took control of the narrative, and shared the good, the bad, and the ugly.
It not only helped me, but it really allowed me to connect with others, and not only did I not feel judged, I received so much love and support from so many people.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Because I really try to be transparent and honest on social media, I do believe that my public version is the real me.
Although, I don’t share a lot of my personal life, because I think it is very important to keep parts of your life, just for you.
Also, even though I do try to be real, because of what I do, and the following that I have, people will always have perceptions of you, and what your life is like, that couldn’t be further from the truth ,but that just comes with the territory.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that I will be remembered as someone who really tried to be a positive influence and who showed others that it is never too late, and things are never too dire, to turn things around and have the life that you’ve always dreamed of.
