LaShonda North’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

LaShonda North shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning LaShonda, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day is normally getting up taking care of hygiene, meditation and prayer, checking my calendar and clocking in to my full time! Those 90 minutes normally fly by so that seems like a lot but some days it’s a race in the mornings! The most important to me are prayer and meditation to start my day off in a sane mood!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is LaShonda North and my Brand is Delicious Treasures 2. Uniquely named in remembrance of my late mentor Lindsay Sumbry Gardner . DT2 specializes in crafting amazing baked goods and beautiful cake creations. Following in the footsteps of Lindsay I’m continuing the Delicious Treasures (1) ways in making sure we are a household name in Metro Atlanta and one day opening a fully functioning store front bakery. All DT2 creations are completely homemade from scratch. While we’re working towards growing I’m happy to be able to care of everything myself for now!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I saw the world as the easiest, free flowing place ever! I truly blame my parents, not in a bad way but truly because they didn’t allow myself or my siblings to see it any other way. While I loved it as a child, to see the world as an adult now is truly different. It’s not easily and definitely not free flowing! It’s hard! You run into new obstacles daily! Then some days you wake and have the absolute best day of your life! It’s ever changing so I make the world work for me on a daily basis but this isn’t what I saw growing up at all!

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me that you can always come out of the situation. Keep pushing. Keep Thriving. Use those tears as strength! Suffering isn’t for the weak but it definitely isn’t impossible to beat! The most valuable lesson is taught from failure.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie in my industry is that baking is cheap! That’s an absolute lie!! Ingredients are high! Materials are high and my time is higher! The baking industry is very competitive for that reason because can you always find someone that isn’t charging their worth or misquoting their work! So if you ever want to go into baking please do not allow anyone or social media make you believe this is a cheap industry to hop into! Baking also isn’t for everyone, it’s not just something you can go into the kitchen, start doing one random day and can become successful with. People don’t about they sweets!!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
As a baker I feel most at peace after delivery! The way my nerves be on edge in Atlanta traffic while there’s cake in the car with me is crazy!! Let’s not start on a multi tiered caked! Nerves are out the sunroof and cheeks are clenched! Not to mention turning into a popsicle because the car is now a rolling refrigerator! The sense of peace once that cake is officially dropped off and setup, is a peace like no other and the highlight is always the customers reaction of I’m lucky enough to catch it. It makes what I do all the more worthwhile!
