Today we’d like to introduce you to Yani B Fly.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started hosting parties when I was attending Clark Atlanta University. I continued to sharpen my craft and got involved with my school radio program. I then became a radio personality and had a show with three other female students at CAU. After graduating in 2015, I worked a few retail jobs to build up my connections in the Atlanta area. I soon started doing small gigs for little to no money at all to help me become a better host and build my exposure. I then started to throw my own parties in Atlanta that was directed to the LGBT Community. I felt like I could bring a new vibe to the community when it came to the nightlife through my hosting style and influence. Due to the buzz I was creating and my constant knocking on doors of opportunity, I started hosting and being a part of bigger events. I then started expanding into different cultures and platforms when it came to the nightlife. These experiences and opportunities helped me grow beyond measures and now I get the opportunity to travel and host outside of Atlanta. Every day is trial and error and I’m nowhere near the goals I wish to reach.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NO, the road has not been a smooth one. I am a female in a predominantly male industry. Not only am I female, but I am a lesbian female. I do feel that being in Atlanta gives me a greater opportunity because the LGBT Community is celebrated here more. The biggest struggle is being taken seriously and knowing who I can trust. I believe obstacles are about the journey and showing the will power that no matter what, with consistency, anything is possible. My advice is, no matter how easy it looks, it’s not. Make sure that when you are chasing a dream, you stay fully committed because there are going to be a thousand no’s before you get that one yes. and it won’t stop at that one yes if you don’t stop.
Please tell us about Yani B Fly.
I am involved in the entertainment lifestyle as a whole. I model for clothing companies, promote nightlife and recently started working on some music and acting! I am known for hosting! I definitely have to give credit there first. The majority of my lanes of opportunity have opened up from me rocking the crowd on the mic. I’m proud to say that I provide a service for people to be able to escape and enjoy themselves in an environment filled with good vibes. It’s never really about me, it’s about the part-goers. Being authentic allows me to be set apart from the norm. I allow myself to be relatable in different aspects of life, crossing boundaries and meshing different lifestyles together for solely 1 purpose, and that’s a time to remember.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I read self-help books as a hobby. I like to see if others are feeling, acting, etc., the same things I’m thinking. I am constantly looking for innovative ways to be better tomorrow than I am today. I peruse through Instagram because it helps me to stay current with lifestyles and cultures. It is also a great tool for small businesses and brands like myself to promote outside of the box.
