Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Amber C of Atlanta

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Amber C. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Amber, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I recently bought a new treadmill and started a “walk-and-read” habit. It has become my favorite way to unwind after a busy day! It’s truly a two for one special; calming my mind while also getting consistent exercise. I can do it for hours and always end up feeling clear, energized, and ready to prepare for the next day!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Amber Craig, founder of Blume N Butter, a German–American dessert studio based in the greater Atlanta area. I first launched as Craig’s Crazy Cravings and even had a food truck taking off right before COVID; when the pandemic hit, I pivoted—kept baking for clients and ultimately rebranded to better reflect my story. “Blume”—German for flower—nods to my childhood in Germany, and “Butter” is the universal language of great baking. Today I create custom cakes, edible images, and small-batch desserts that blend European technique with American comfort. I’m currently working toward a brick-and-mortar while doing pop-ups and sharing behind-the-scenes content. My goal is simple: make celebrations feel elevated, personal, and a little unexpected.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world handed me titles, I was a military kid in Germany who found “home” in the kitchen. Flour and butter were my constants—I baked to make people smile, to celebrate, to create comfort wherever we landed. I was equal parts creator and organizer: the one who turned chaos into checklists and simple ingredients into moments people remembered. That’s still me today—someone who builds community through details, celebration, and care, whether I’m leading HR operations or crafting German-American desserts with Blume N Butter.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me what success never could—how to stay steady when plans implode, ask for help, and rebuild with more purpose than pride. When my food truck shut down during COVID, I learned to pivot, rebrand, and design systems that work on the worst days, not just the best. It taught me empathy and boundaries, the difference between applause and impact, and that real growth is measured in the people you lift, not the numbers you post.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The dessert world tells itself a few pretty lies: that a great product “sells itself,” that a storefront equals success, that followers equal revenue, that pretty equals delicious, and that discounting wins loyalty. The truth I’ve learned is tougher: product needs systems and consistency; profit beats vanity—preorders, pop-ups, and wholesale can outperform a lease; trust converts better than likes; flavor, texture, and food safety matter more than a perfect photo; and pricing must cover ingredients, labor, admin, and owner pay or you’re funding a hobby, not a business.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in two rhythms: a warm kitchen and a quiet walk. In the kitchen—flour on my hands, butter melting—the measuring and folding settle my mind. On the treadmill with a good book, the steady steps do the same. Both remind me to slow down, breathe, and make something simple and good.
