We recently had the chance to connect with Debo Loudd and have shared our conversation below.
Debo , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I would say integrity because without it the other two options don’t really mean anything & can only get you so far. This is not to say the other options are bad but in all honesty I wouldn’t want to be around people places or things that don’t align with me. A person without integrity but has the other two qualities is a liability because they may be willing to do anything to get a desired result. Just because someone has quote on quote good energy or feel good they still may not be good for you to be around to say the least. I also know what it looks like to possess all three qualities so because i exist so I would rather choose quality over quantity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Debo Loudd , Brand owner , chef , multi media artist & creative. I am a 25 year old entrepreneur who does it all. I have a lifestyle brand, Loudd House that serves as an umbrella for my other brands to express themselves in their own world. Loudd House serves as a creative outlet to express my story through fashion. Showing you can overcome anything & still choose to be expressive & choose to be Loudd!
While this is the head of the umbrella I have been expanding my reach over these past 5 years. Growing from just doing art alongside fashion & just being in clothing brand space to now expanding to lifestyle as a whole. This isn’t exclusively reserved for just Loudd House as it is for all my brands as well. Beginning with Louddvegan , this is my cooking brand where i showcase plant-based alternatives & showing that a healthy lifestyle doesn’t cost flavor or fun! Cooking is one of the things i grew loving as i made the transition to a plant-based lifestyle & this is how i share my knowledge & wisdom as I still learn on this journey.
I briefly touched on my art but this is more than just that it was the foundation for almost everything I do today. This I can say whole heartedly is a gift & a talent from many lifetimes not just this one. I can say as long as I’ve been breathing I’ve been doing some sort of art. From being 7-8 having full shoe designs or doing my own comics it was always something prominent. Even going back to pre-k winning art awards above the whole school this has always been something apart of my life.
I now have created a lane that wasn’t taught or shown back then & I accumulated this wisdom just through just learning what works for me over the years being creative from young. Embodying the blueprint paving the way for generations to come. Choosing to embrace self & self love, going at my own pace and making my own systems instead of relying on one outside of me !
Last but certainly not least would be the most futuristic of them all , Loudd House NFTS ! This is a combination of my art with and fashion decentralized on the blockchain. I did one of the first clothing releases through the Solona exchange providing a clothing piece that was an NFT itself along with utilities that tie back to Loudd House. This is why i say it is an umbrella because each brand is tied to one another in their own right to make my own universe !
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I love this question! I would say my inner child ! He really has been the star of the show. I can say I carry this connection with me today and I had to work on getting back to the things I liked as a child so I can embody them now! So I would begin by saying a person who is confident , courageous & fearless. These were all things I carried from my childhood because I never really cared about what the world said to be because I always had my own back & did what I wanted.
I’ve always knew never questioned myself, not saying it wasn’t any hiccups but I never allowed myself to be defined by the external. I can remember I use to give myself acronym sayings as a child like K.M.F. meaning keep moving forward because at even 10 11 & 12 i knew you couldn’t move forward looking back.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Not to equate success & accomplishments to your worth & validation. While those things are nice failing doesn’t feel so good & you have to be able to be the same person win lose or maybe. This doesn’t mean don’t feel, grieve or be happy, it just means your worth shouldn’t be tied to how much you can produce or get done or only when you are successful. I actively let myself know that my existence deems me worthy & without anything I am everything. For me this is an affirmation because I have to validate myself so I don’t look for it outside of myself & for that is major.
Failing itself is just an invitation to learn so you can do it even better. This helped change the way I see it so instead of focusing on “failure” I look for the lesson & what can be applied from it. In business you have to be willing to take risks & this is the mindset that makes it easier to do so. While every risk may not fall through, it is always data in the experience so it’s like take from it what you can & focus on what you can do to be better & let go of what’s outside of your control.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to niche down in order to be successful ,palatable or even sell. In my years of being in fashion with it now becoming more prominent on social media since 2020, it’s a-lot more people speaking on it as a whole. I feel there is no right way to express art & if it is vast and multifaceted why shrink down to fit in a societal box? Art is meant to push boundaries so being “niche” is just the opposite. I understand marketing & having a target audience , but the right people will always gravitate to what you are doing.
For me I have to focus on what was my why. Focusing on what was important in the beginning because i wasn’t influenced by social media & gurus saying this is the way to do something. This keeps me grounded and on my path instead of listening to the outside noise. Being open to learning is fine but it should be adding to my formula not changing it and abandoning what already is working for me & thats being me. Showing every aspect the fashion the art , the food everything that is me has brought in success and growth and I have more to offer this would be a personal brand but even if the possibilities are endless in any avenue i choose to venture in and that is why i say you don’t have to be niche to win be you be weird have fun learn grow and execute.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
That it came over night ,I never went through anything because I don’t look like it nor carry it that way & That it was luck. The reality of it is it took real time & cultivation when no one else was looking. This has always been my calling & was always going to happen. Throughout my path I’ve never let any situation or exterior circumstance define me. It has never been a time I didn’t get back up after i fell.
So to some on the outside looking in not knowing I feel those things definitely can be misunderstood. Also since having a legacy is something desirable but not easily attainable I know what comes with the territory of being successful. When it comes to luck , I’d have to say that’s just me everything always works out for me. Always has always will .
