Katelyn Pike shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Katelyn, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Thanks so much for asking me to chat with you! I’ll be honest, I’m not much of a morning person, so I like to ease into my day. The very first thing I do is hop on my walking pad while checking emails and tackling whatever small task has been nagging at the back of my mind. I’ve found that getting that one “mental clutter” item out of the way helps me feel lighter and more focused.
After that, I take some time to reset: I get ready for the day, make a yummy pot of coffee, and take care of my dog. By the time I sit back down at my desk, I’ve moved my body, cleared a little mental space, and tended to both myself and those around me. That way, when I look at my to-do list, I feel awake, refreshed, and ready to dive into the bigger priorities.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Of course! My name is Katelyn Pike, and I’m the owner, photographer, and filmmaker behind Honeycomb Films. At Honeycomb, our heart is to create wedding photos and films that feel timeless, emotional, and deeply personal. I believe a wedding film and photo gallery should do more than document the day, it should transport you back into the atmosphere of the day: the voices, the movement, the energy, and the little details that might have otherwise been missed. What makes Honeycomb special is the intentional way we approach each couple’s story, weaving together both artistry and authenticity so the film feels like them. We do this by including interviews with the couple’s so our films are not just the story of the wedding day, but the couple’s full love story. Right now, I’m especially focused on growing our brand and expanding past Honeycomb Film into a photo only brand as well: Kate Pike Photo. KPP has the same heart and intentionality as Honeycomb, but ran by me as well, but as a more relaxed approach while still giving couples memories that feel like them.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
What a great questions! The person who taught me the most about work is definitely my mom. She’s one of the hardest workers I know, but what stood out to me even more was the way she balanced that with being so present for our family. Growing up, I never felt the weight of her work day when she was with us. She has this gift of turning off “work mode” and turning on “mom mode” so we always had her full attention. Watching her be both selfless and ambitious showed me that you can pursue excellence in your work while also leading with care and intention.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think that would be the feeling of not being good enough. You know, classic imposter syndrome. For a long time, I worried that I wasn’t talented enough, or that there were so many others doing it “better” than me, that maybe I didn’t belong at the table. It’s a fear that creeps in quietly and tells you to play small, to second-guess your decisions, and to measure your worth against someone else’s highlight reel.
But over time, I’ve learned that this fear doesn’t have to control me. It’s actually pushed me to grow, to refine my craft, and to stay humble and teachable. I’ve also realized that what makes me “good enough” isn’t perfection or being the most talented person in the room… it’s the way I show up, the way I care for my clients, and the heart I put into every project. That shift in perspective has helped me transform fear into fuel, even if it’s still something I have to work on every day.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! I work very hard to make sure the public version of me is the real me, actually. I believe our clients deserve authenticity, and that’s what I strive to give them from the very first interaction. I’ve seen people in the industry who present one version of themselves to clients and a completely different one to vendors, and honestly, that makes me sad. To me, trust and connection come from being genuine. I want my clients to know that who they see is who I truly am, because that bond is what allows me to do my best work for them.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Ohh! What a great questions. I think the one thing I would have regretted not doing is working for Disney as a cast member. Growing up, that was always a dream of mine. But in a way, life has worked out so beautifully, because now I get the best of both worlds. I get to run my own company and pursue my creative vision, while also capturing magical moments at Disney and even working alongside their team when couples bring me in as a third-party photographer or videographer. It’s a full-circle experience that combines that childhood dream with the independence and passion I’ve built into my career. However, with that said – I am so very thankful for where I am today and what lead me here. So though that may be a “regret”, I know life would look different if my past looked different. So I am so very thankful for everything that lead me to where I am today and the amazing life I live and business I have the pleasure to own!
