We recently had the chance to connect with LaTonya Holston and have shared our conversation below.
Hi LaTonya, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
Every day, I have the chance to learn from the most valuable source I have, ME. By tuning into my own thoughts, feelings, and experiences, I have better understanding of my motivations and what truly matters to me.
This kind of self-reflection helps me stay on my own path, rather than being pulled in different directions by outside influences or the expectations of others.
It’s about building a strong inner compass and trusting it to guide you. When I commit to this daily practice, I kind of develop the resilience and clarity needed to navigate life authentically and achieve my goals on my own terms.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is LaTonya Holston, the founder and CEO of Liquid3_6, a brand marketing agency.
My thought process for starting my company was based on the motto “We’re Stronger Together,” with a goal to prove that there is enough money for everyone in a collaborative economy.
My passion is brand marketing, and I find joy in the ability to help brand, advertise, and increase the income of others.
Initial funding for Liquid3_6 came from my 401k via my previous employer, Aflac. I give credits to my two daughters, Kielyn and Ka’dyn, as my “muses” and a major reason for my desire to succeed in business.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds between people are most often broken by a breakdown of trust, which can be caused by dishonesty, broken promises, or betrayal. Other factors that can damage relationships include a lack of communication, unresolved conflict, or a failure to respect boundaries.
Bonds can be restored through honest communication, genuine apologies, and a commitment to change. Restoring a relationship requires both parties to take responsibility for their actions, practice empathy, and be willing to forgive. Rebuilding trust takes time and consistent, positive actions that show a commitment to mending the relationship.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
As a child when I was sad or scared, I would write. Writing is a form of emotional catharsis; it helps a child release tension and stress. Writing helped externalize my feelings, making them less intimidating and helping me better understand and label my emotions.
It was kind of like the movie “” I found joy in separating my emotions giving them their own tasks by using metaphors and symbolism. This act actually assists me with analyzing clients brand story’s and preparing their brand marketing strategies to yield better ROI.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie that branding and marketing tells itself is that the brand is something they create and control.
In reality, a brand is not just a logo, a tagline, or a slick marketing campaign. It is the sum total of every experience a customer has with a company, from the first time they see an ad to the quality of the product, the customer service, and the company’s actions in the world.
A brand is ultimately defined by the customer, not the company. Marketers can influence perception, but they cannot dictate it. The lie is the belief that a company can simply “brand” itself into a certain image without the substance, consistency, and a genuine customer experience to back it up. When a brand’s actions don’t align with its messaging, the customer sees the disconnect, and the brand’s credibility is damaged.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I am gone I want people to tell others that LaTonya wanted EVERYONE to win, even if they were already yielding more than she. She pushed “We’re Stronger Together” theme until she passed on.
