We’re looking forward to introducing you to Skyla Jenkins. Check out our conversation below.
Skyla, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately I’ve been spending more time exploring my photography and experimenting with new editing style. Which has been such a creative outlet and really refreshing outside of work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Skyla Bionca Jenkins, and I’m the creative mind behind Thee Unique Identity, a fashion and portraiture photography brand that celebrates individuality and self-expression. What makes my work special is the way I focus on bringing out each person’s authentic personality and unique story through my lens. I want every portrait to feel powerful, stylish, and deeply personal.
My journey started with a self-taught passion for photography, and over the years, I’ve built my brand around the idea that fashion and portraiture can be more than images—they can be statements of identity. Right now, I’m working on expanding my portfolio with more editorial-inspired shoots and collaborations that highlight diversity and creativity in fresh, dynamic ways.
At the heart of everything I do is the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, confident, and unforgettable in front of the camera.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was the first time I picked up a camera and realized I could capture people the way I saw them—full of beauty, emotion, and strength. That moment showed me how creativity can shift perspectives.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a point when I questioned whether pursuing photography was realistic. Balancing life, finances, and building a brand from scratch felt overwhelming. But every time I thought about walking away, the passion I have for creating and the joy it brings me—and others—pulled me back.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is very much the real me—I strive to stay authentic in my work and my interactions. Of course, like anyone, I have private sides that aren’t always visible, but what I share with the world is always genuine.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, absolutely. For me, creating art has never been about recognition—it’s about the love of the process and the joy it brings. Praise is wonderful, but even without it, I’d still give my best because the work itself fulfills me.
