Tamika Terry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Tamika, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Honestly, it varies—whether I’m on set, freelancing, or (let’s be real) looking for work, which feels like 75% of the job sometimes! My day usually starts with coffee—that’s non-negotiable. Lately, I’ve been making a conscious effort to do my own makeup in the mornings. I’d gotten way too comfortable skipping it, but now it’s part of how I pour into myself. I’ve also been prioritizing self-care more: taking walks, getting fresh air, not being overly critical of myself, and just trying to be more present and enjoy the moment. Every day looks a little different, but I try to stay grounded in the small rituals that keep me balanced.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Of course, my name is Tamika, but in the beauty world, I go by Charm. I’m a certified makeup artist based in Atlanta, GA, with a passion for storytelling through glam. I’ve worked across TV, film, and independent productions, creating camera-ready looks for a wide range of characters and talent. My brand blends creativity, professionalism, and a deep respect for diverse beauty, with a strong focus on sanitation, skin prep, and product knowledge.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’d say my insecurities. This craft continues to show me that every unique thing about me contributes to who I am—that authenticity is my greatest asset. I’ve learned that chasing perfection by the world’s standards is a losing game. Life unfolds in seasons and sequences, and I’m choosing to release the need to measure up to unrealistic ideals. Instead, I’m embracing the real, the raw, and the evolving me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, I give up every day—and then I wake up and go at it again. That’s just the truth. This craft is driven by passion, and with that comes emotion, pressure, competition, and the fact that it’s also how I make my living. It’s a lot. But it keeps me on my toes. It pushes me to educate myself, grow, and level up. And despite the ups and downs, I truly love it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That these are God-given talents. Lol. It is most definitely a skill set. The business of beauty can be ugly—but strong intention can outshine that. The truth is, great artistry isn’t magic; it’s discipline. Skill in this field comes from consistent practice, refinement, and showing up over and over again. The better the artist, the clearer their intention behind every face they touch. This isn’t just a passion—it’s a profession. You need tough skin, a calm ego, and the ability to not take things personally if you want to last in this game.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I’m building connections, planting seeds, and staying consistent in my craft—not just for the short wins, but for the long-term impact. It’s about creating something that lives beyond me.” Legacy, network, and generational wealth!
