Life and Work with Angelica Soler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Soler.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started the Summer of 2015, the summer before I started college. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do for my major as well as my career. I had always wanted to start a YouTube channel, but I wasn’t comfortable posting videos at the time so I decided I would start a beauty, fashion, and lifestyle blog to get myself out there. After posting on my blog for a while, I decided it was time I make my first YouTube video (beginning of 2016). I’ve had some ups and downs with my progress, but overall, I am super proud of where I am today. I was approached by Glossier in May of 2017 and was asked to become a rep, which was one of the best opportunities I’ve been given throughout my time as a content creator. Since then, I have been featured in Teen Vogue for my content regarding Glossier’s Cloud Paints! I continue to work on creating quality content for my YouTube, Instagram, and blog. I’ve worked with some amazing brands including Vanity Planet, Billy, True & Co., and Maison de Sabre and more. Throughout my journey with content creation, I’ve been able to gain valuable business experience as well as lasting friendships with companies and other creators!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been easy, but I definitely learned some valuable information and lessons throughout my journey. One of the biggest struggles I’ve had to face is competition with other creators. There are a lot of us in this industry and we all want to succeed, but it can be hard to see personal growth with a comparison to the others. I try to focus on building myself as a person as well as my brand. I want to make sure I continue to be genuine with my audience, no matter the number. Another struggle that I, and many other smaller YouTubers, went through happened in February of 2018. Anyone who didn’t reach the 4,000-hour watch-time limit was demonetized. For me, it wasn’t about the money, but the fact that I wasn’t earning from my hard work. It made me feel like all my hard work wasn’t worth it, but I’ve come to the realization that whether or not I’m getting paid, I have amazing subscribers and supporters that love my content no matter what! My advice to other young women who are starting out is to keep at your dreams even if they seem impossible. You’ll never know what could happen unless you try! I also believe in networking with other creators that have content in common with you. Having other creative minds to go to for guidance and inspiration is very valuable.

Please tell us about your work.
I create beauty, fashion, and lifestyle content across all my social media platforms. I’m mostly known for my fashion sense, especially on Instagram, and being a Glossier rep! I like to post “outfit of the day’s” on my Instagram story and I get a lot of great responses from it! What sets me apart from others is that I push myself to try new things even if they don’t last as long as I anticipate them to. I have tried several, and I mean SEVERAL, types of content ranging from blogging and photography to creating a digital fashion magazine! I’m so glad that I push myself to try new things because I always used to be afraid to start something new. I think it’s important to put yourself out of your comfort zone if it means you’ll be learning something new that could make a world of a difference in your life!

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Don’t be afraid to try something new because it can change your life in such an amazing way! I let the fear of putting myself out there hold me back from creating content I love for longer than I would have liked. I’m so glad that there is a huge community of young women who support each other no matter the number of followers or likes you have. It can be scary to get out of your comfort zone, but once you do there is a whole world of possibilities waiting for you!
