Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelice Smith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My first trip to Atlanta was the summer of 2001. The air was different when I got off the plane. I felt like I was no longer breathing oxygen, but entrepreneurship and success. After that, I was hooked! Being a Florida native and a high school student at the time, I had to figure out a way to be in Atlanta as much as possible. I got my feet wet working with my father, Mr. Reggie, and Urban Spice Magazine. I worked as a correspondent, graphics consultant, art director, vendor, host, hair stylist, and makeup artist. Finally, I found my niche… my way in! Hairstyling, after all, that’s what I’ve always done. I started networking and marketing with everyone I met to build a client list. It took me a short three months to build a constant clientele. Now, I travel to Atlanta as needed to create personal hair care experiences. My “Pop-up shop” suitcase is equipped with everything I need to create a salon experience in the comfort of your own home. My love of travel, hair care, and meeting new people is nurtured with this part of my business. I am a traveling stylist!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road I embarked on was fueled by determination and wanting to experience something different. To be honest about the matter, my confidence was a game changer for me. I was young and inexperienced, but my bold personality carried me to a place where it didn’t matter. I was true to myself and turns out people loved my spirit. I begin to get greeted with hugs, smiles, some even remember my name. I stayed constant in my desire to learn and help that’s what got me picked over others. The road I traveled was unique and fun because I didn’t allow any negativity to keep me from seeing the big picture. My words of advice are simple, no matter how big the problem, the solution is buried somewhere inside. Be a problem solver.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Relax it’s Natural Hair Salon – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as and what sets you apart from others.
I am an award-winning, Master, celebrity stylist and National Educator. I’ve been in the Cosmetology industry for seventeen years and a business owner for fourteen. I create clean, crisp, and detailed visual works of art styling dreadlocks. I help define curls, tame kinkiness and grow healthy natural hair. I design creative color concepts using my artistic background. Not to mention my gift to educate. My students will agree that my teaching style helps make the most challenging technique very simple and easy to understand. I believe in helping others and giving individuals with extraordinary talent and limited opportunities a platform. The thing I’m most proud of is my ability to withstand Entrepreneurship. God chose me, he gave me this dream, and because of that, there’s a difference.
Who have you been inspired by?
It takes a village to raise a child, I know that to be true. Through her example, Lois Smith, my mother/grandmother, inspired my love of people. Terry Baldwin, father/grandfather made sure I had a work ethic. She helped instill integrity in my words, thoughts, and deeds. Delores Cummings, a grandmother, helped cultivate life principles and wisdom. I got my style and savvy ways from my mom, Patricia Smith. Omega Mothersill helped me discover confidence and power. Janice Moore gave me my first job as a receptionist for that I’m inspired to give others a chance. Tanisha Mathis has the most impact on my career, she showed me how to manage a career, family, and a personal life with style and grace. Needless to say, I’m still taking notes. I have two aunties that inspire me the most, Cynthia Jernigan and Etta Owens. They are yin and yang, opposites, but have one trait in common, they support everyone they care about and that is inspiring. Each lady I consider to be a friend or business partner inspired me daily through the way they live there life. My sisters and brothers inspires me to live, love and laugh. Last but not least, my daughter inspires me to dream! My village is big and diverse filled with women of all demographics and I believe in being inspired by all.

I couldn’t be prouder of my niece, Angelice! She is a self-made woman. Her goals are in the clouds but her feet are still grounded. She came late into our lives but it was like she had always been there. The Lewis/Cummings clan has always believed in you and we will continue to be your biggest supporters and admirers.
