Life and Work with AngelTheStar

Today we’d like to introduce you to AngelTheStar.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Omg, where do I begin! I’m a singer songwriter, here in Atlanta, I’m a world traveler, and I have shared the stage with some of today’s major artists, such as: Neyo, Anthony Hamilton, Jazmine Sullivan, and the list goes on. I’m currently working on my EP that will be released this summer, I’m also anti-bullying advocate, I take time to go into the schools, raising more awareness, about putting an end to bullying, and I also have a song dedicated to stop bullying called Stop This Bullying(The Movement!) you can check it out on Soundcloud/Angel_TheStar. You may ask how I got started in the music industry?

Well, here it goes. I was a college student in Florida, studying to be a psychologist, got good grades, but I knew something was missing, and that something was Music. I will never forget, one day I was in the computer lab, checking my emails, and I received an email from my mother saying simply, “Angel, everybody has a start, and your start, starts today” I took those words and kept them, close to my heart. Not long after that, I got the opportunity of a lifetime, being a background singer for multi-platinum grammy nominated artist Musiq Soulchild, I did that for four years. I mean I went from being just a normal college student to performing before 15,000 screaming fans at the AAA Arena, in Miami, on the Year of the Gentleman Tour with Neyo, and Musiq Soulchild. I must say, that was some of the best years of my life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You know nothing is really easy, especially in the industry that I’m in, but if I could encourage another young person, I would say, just be you. Sometimes, we try so hard to be like this one or that one, that we forget about just being your true authentic self. When you focus on being who God has made you be, everything else will fall into place.

Please tell us about your business.
I’m a singer, songwriter, and an advocate for change. What I love the most about being an artist, is that people listen when you speak. As an artist, I get to use this platform not just for my music, but to talk about other things that I’m passionate about, like my Stop The Bullying (The Movement) Campaign. I think what sets me apart from everyone else is that I stay true, to who I am as a person, and as a woman of color. I am uniquely me.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Never give up! Go with what you know, when you changing things up, that’s when things can get tricky.
