Today we’d like to introduce you to April Mosley.
Hi April, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a born and raised Atlanta creative! I’ve been actively doing Event Planner since 2009. I was Co-Owner of iMinx, an event planning company based in Atlanta, GA, as an event stylist! I’ve always been fascinated with glitz and glamour. I get such a thrill witnessing a room transformation that I’ve styled! I absolutely love it! After iMinx was dissolved. I continued working as a freelance event stylist. To remain relevant, I kept up with design trends. In 2017, I decided to tap into my craft skills and try my hand at paper flowers. Which seemingly were becoming more and more popular.
After posting my first attempt at a paper flower to social media, I received great feedback. This motivated me to perfect my craft. I worked day and night diligently and networked with some amazing women apart of the paper flower industry. I was surprised to hear how much a big business paper flowers could be! Within a year, I had a full-blown paper flower business, which I named Paper Magic, deeming me a Paper Magician. I found this name most suitable because it feels like magic, transforming paper into a beautiful flower! As you can see, I’m still in love with the process of transformation. Whether a room or a piece of paper.
To date, I’ve produced a countless amount of paper flowers to various customers across the US. I feel extremely honored my customers considered me to share my magic in their dorm rooms, businesses, in their homes and on special occasions! I was contacted by a potential client who lived in St. Louis, MO. She raved about my work and was adamant about purchasing flowers from me to add to your business space decor. This customer wanted enough flowers to fill an entire 8 x 8 wall. This would’ve been a bit pricey to ship. However, this was no obstacle for my client. She decided to drive from St. Louis to Atlanta and drive her flowers back home to install. I honestly could not believe it!
I was so overwhelmed she thought this much of my work! I love all my clients, supporters, and followers! It has been an amazing journey to serve them all! I love what I do! So much that I’ve volunteered multiple times to teach paper flower classes at the Scott Candler Library, in Decatur GA to seniors. I’m also frequently booked for classes at Michael’s and private events. It’s a blessing to be able to share your talents with the world! Paper Magic continues to thrive tremendously as it’s own business. I’m also still an Event Planner, operating as the @EventologistAtl on Instagram. I never pass up an opportunity for collaboration with my two businesses when possible. Please stop by to view my beautiful paper flowers on Instagram at @papermagicatl. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been completely smooth, although I count it all joy. Making paper flowers is time-consuming, with a tedious process. My biggest challenge has been in finding good reliable help with the prepping process, which has posed some challenges. There were times when I wanted to give up on some pretty big projects. I’m extremely particular about the quality of my work. I want my customer satisfied with a product that I would want for myself. My circle of supports never allowed me to give up. Although crafting was not their thing. They pitched in and helped where they could. I’m beyond grateful for them! I love them so much!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Owner of Paper Magic. A paper flower artistry company, where I’m known as April the Paper Magician. I specialize in making paper flower decor, from a small to large scale. I would consider my niche to be my permanently installed accent walls. I’ve installed paper flowers for some of Atlanta’s best celebrity Hairstylists ie Porsha Porche, MUA’s, and most recently, I was hired by the infamous interior designer Felicia of Fe’s Fab Decor. For an install in a luxury black-owned nail salon, Platinum Pinkyz in East Point, GA. I created a beautiful 9 ft x 12 1/2 ft paper flower accent wall in their lash room, “Pretty Lashed Out.”
However, we’re most sought after for large custom paper flower walls. We still offer paper flower services for any size project or look! Outside of my own businesses, I proudly serve on the committee board of Destiny Dash Brunch Club, as well as the Secret Miracle’s Unlimited as their Event Planner/Stylist. Both of these organizations are amazing. Destiny Dash is a social brunch club that’s more than brunch. We’re a Sisterhood of empowerment & philanthropy! Secret Miracles Unlimited educate, empower, and nurture, tween & teens girls between 10-19 to become future leaders through mentorship & philanthropy.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I am Atlanta! Being a 70’s baby and a native of this city, I’ve witnessed various changes! I love that we remain relevant! So much that our cities population has grown tremendously over the past 20 years, which has put me in the path of so many good people! In my line of business, this is a win! I love glitz and glamour! Atlanta is full of it! It help keep a black female entrepreneur like myself in business! There’s nothing I like least about it! Atlanta has been good to me! It’s afforded me a great life, where I’ve been able to thrive from a personal and business aspect!! Between my personal life, business, and philanthropy. I have a great balance here in Atlanta! I couldn’t see myself any where else!
