Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayana Turner.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ayana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began writing on a professional level in 2013 with iPUSH Magazine which is based out of Birmingham, Alabama. My foundation started at my alma mater Miles College where I was the sports editor for the Milean which is the student publication. I grew under iPUSH and expanded into the role of a lead journalist taking on celebrity interviews and features. From those experiences, I wrote my first book in 2017 which I self-published entitled 21 Days of Difference. In 2018 I published my second book If Nobody Cheers 4 You, You Should, and I created Ayana’s Books & Brunch Club. I set a goal to write one book a year and I’m now on my third book The Friendliest Deceit which will release this December.
Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t smooth at all because all while bettering myself, I was raising four children alone, working full-time, and going to school full-time on-campus at Miles College. It was so hard trying to multi-task and be able to attend basketball games for my three sons and making sure I poured into my daughter. Being that she was my only girl, I had to ensure she was loved and developing into a young lady. I promised my oldest son we would graduate together, and in 2014 I graduated with my BA in communications, and in 2018, I graduated with my MBA in marketing a few months after my youngest son graduated from high school. I will tell any woman to believe everything you desire is attainable and to understand the sky isn’t the limit, your mind is. Be brave, but most of all, be your unique and wonderful self.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ayana’s Books & Brunch Club, and iPUSH Magazine – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am the lead journalist for iPUSH Magazine which stands for “I Posses Unlimited Skill & Hustle.” I am also a three times published author of 21 Days of Difference, If Nobody Cheers 4 You, You Should, and The Friendliest Deceit. I am a seasoned interviewer, strong journalist, and editor. I created Ayana’s Books & Brunch Club in Atlanta, Ga to create dialogue between men and women who enjoy discussing literary works over some of the most amazing brunch. I am most proud of never giving up and being dedicated to wanting better. What sets me apart is that I never tried to mimic anyone else. I always stayed true to myself and held myself to a certain level of professionalism.
Who have you been inspired by?
My mother most of all because I watched her as an intelligent, strong, African American woman who was an educator and she raised my two sisters and I the best way she could. She never complained and sacrificed so much by working three jobs at one time just to make sure we weren’t lacking anything. I remember my mom giving up her bed and sleeping on the couch for years so that we could be comfortable. From her fearless spirit, I grew my motivation and I knew I could do anything because my mother did it.
