Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Hopkins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Barbara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion has always been helping others, whether just listening or providing personal or small business coaching. Even in my career, coworkers and employees would come into my office, have a seat, share what was on their minds, and ask for insight. Or just needed to vent and someone to listen without judgment. My goal is always to help my client establish realistic goals, release things and/or people who may contribute to a stagnant life, and grow through the coaching process.
My path has included event planning (coaching brides through the planning of their wedding), coaching and facilitating small support groups, personal coaching. and so many other coaching opportunities, I did not see these opportunities as a pathway to my destiny but it has led me to start my own coaching business.
In addition, I am a co-founder of 27:17 Advisory Group, which is a support and empowerment group for women who are launching their own business or are currently in business. This group provides encouragement, new ideas, mind mapping, and mastermind strategies. We also support and celebrate our members on their accomplishments.
In my love and desire to help individuals grow in their personal lives and/or business, my passion also includes spiritual growth. I am a member of the Board of Christian Education at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church and serve in the role of discipleship chairperson, coordinating our current discipleship classes as well as seeking new classes to add that will continue to enhance spiritual growth.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This journey has not been a smooth road; however, the journey and challenges have definitely been worth it. Some of my challenges have been realizing that my goals (blueprint) and marketing plan needed to be fluid because things may not happen or work out the way or in the time frame that you have planned. Also, developing your elevator pitch, as well as networking and getting involved in organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce in your area and other professional organizations, can be a tremendous help to grow your business.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Yes. As a child, I would go with my grandmother to weekly mission meetings. She and a group of her peers would meet in their homes, discuss specific things to pray for and pray until they had covered every concern. I would sit on the floor, leaning against my grandmother’s leg and listen. The insight shared in these meetings has had a tremendous impact on my life. It was in this setting that I experienced the various professions these ladies were in and making a great impact, as well as women who were entrepreneurs.
In my own life personal experiences, when bumped into that invisible wall, I could always think back on such experiences but I was also blessed with the spiritual guidance of my grandmother. Although she is no longer physically with me, she lives on in my heart and I can always hear her guidance that means so much more to me today.
