Today we’d like to introduce you to Boss Britt and DJ eXeL.
Boss Britt and DJ eXeL, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We both moved to Atlanta a few years ago in hopes of gaining more exposure and chasing our dreams in the entertainment business. We met through a mutual friend, Lalaa Shepard. I (DJ eXeL) was a DJ on The Progress Report and Britt came to visit which is how we met. We then continued to cross paths during mutual bookings and that is when our friendship grew. We later decided to join forces to become a Duo and throw our own parties.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it actually has been a pretty smooth ride. We don’t usually come across too many struggles. But when we do, we learn and grow from them every time! The advice we would give is to have a clear plan of goals you want to achieve and remember consistency is key! You also have to make sacrifices and take risks; step outside your comfort zone.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Boss Britt is a host and I (eXeL) am a DJ. But we’re also two of the top LGBT promoters in Atlanta which is a huge blessing seeing how we’re not from here and haven’t been here that long. We are pretty much known for being the hottest duo and throwing some of the biggest lesbian events. We are proud of how much we’ve grown within two years. We love the response we get from everyone that parties with us, they truly enjoy our events! We believe we are different than other promoters because we focus on satisfying our customers and creating an actual experience. We also make sure we interact and party with everyone at our parties.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
Some of the biggest barriers today with being a female in the entertainment business are you are dealing with men and trying to get them to take you seriously. We honestly don’t face many barriers at this point because our work within speaks for itself and we can prove we know how to run a business.
