Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Free.
Chanel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been the go-to-girl for advice amongst my family and friends. But, when I moved to Atlanta from Brooklyn, NY in 2013, I found myself unemployed. Even with 15 years of experience in counseling and psychology, it seemed like no one wanted to hire me. As a mother with two young children, I decided that if no one was going to hire me that I was going to hire myself and that’s when I began Coaches In Heels (formerly known as The Fearless Coach). Taking my life skills and formal training; I went on a mission to help other women blast through the many obstacles of life and business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been bumpy, to say the least. I realized very quickly that having the skills to coach and passion to help people was NOT enough to build a successful coaching business.
I remember trying everything from blogging, creating a fancy website, and posting endlessly on social media because that’s what I was told to do. Yet, none of it worked. I had a bunch of programs and services, but no paying clients.
There were several years I didn’t make any money at all. I’d lay awake at night wondering if I should just give up!
The #1 thing that saved my coaching business was getting a coach of my own. But first, I needed to admit that I needed the help (which was hard for me). I’m one of those people that have always excelled at everything I did, so I just knew that I could do it on my own, but I couldn’t.
I had to ask myself: Do you want to continue patching your business together with free resources and getting no results, while other coaches that started after you passed you by?
OR
Are you going to be brave enough to ask for help?
I choose to be brave! It wasn’t an easy choice, but it was the RIGHT one. It was the choice that I would encourage my daughters to make. And it was the moment that changed my business and my life forever.
Please tell us about Coaches In Heels.
I specialize in helping women get paid to transform the lives of others by building a profitable coaching brand.
Coaches In Heels are unique women who have overcome many trials in life and have lived to not only share their stories with others, but to transform their lives through one-on-one coaching, group programs, and life-changing masterclasses.
We are unique in that our brands are built on purpose, passion, and faith which enables us to stand tall in our heels despite facing many challenges in life.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Accept failure as part of the process and do something good with it. I’ve failed more times than I’d like to admit. It has knocked me down for months at a time. But, what I have learned is that there are critical lessons embedded deep under your frustration, stress, and regret. There are lessons that will propel you forward if you are courageous enough to look past the pain on the surface. This will keep you resilient and stop negative thinking and discouragement from ruining your success.
