Life and Work with Hannah Olivia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Olivia.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Hannah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m from Highland Springs, VA. I moved to Atlanta about 14 years ago and I can honestly say that is the best thing that could’ve happened for me. Living here in Atlanta has opened the doors to so many opportunities and has given me a chance to connect with like-minded people who are on their grind.

I’ve been plus size, or what I like to call a “plush babe” my whole life. I remember being in middle school comparing the size of my legs (my thighs in particular) to other girls in my class. Even though I had a “little extra” to work with, I always embraced my body. I was never teased about my size, but I do remember guys calling me “Thunder Thighs” which I always took as a term of endearment.

It wasn’t until 2018 that I decided to start my YouTube channel. I’ve worked in retail in the past and have always loved putting outfits together, so that’s what I wanted my channel to be centered around. I wanted to cater specifically to Plus Size women because I know the struggles of finding pieces that fit our bodies firsthand.

Fast forward to now, I have over 100,000 views on YouTube and counting! I never thought I would be capable of having so much influence & impact on people’s lives. I’ve gotten messages from my supporters saying how because of me they feel more comfortable wearing shorter dresses or short sleeve tops. I’m just grateful for the love and positivity my supporters have given me, that makes it all worthwhile.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think I anticipated how much money and time would be involved! To date, I’ve literally spent at least a couple thousand, if not more, on tools & supplies for my channel. Don’t get me started on editing! That’s a whole other beast. I remember when I posted my first video, it took me 9 or 10 hours just to edit! Never again Satan! Hahaha.

Over time, you learn what processes work best for you. You find your own upload schedule and rhythm. I film & edit everything on my iPhone! I wouldn’t recommend buying a camera initially (I don’t think it’s necessary), especially if you have an updated smartphone with good video quality.

The biggest advice I can give is to just have fun and BE YOURSELF! Don’t try to be extra for the camera lol. Also, it’s not too late to start a YouTube channel! There is only one YOU, and no one else can do what you do.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a Plus Size Fashion Influencer. I use my social media platforms on YouTube and Instagram to promote body positivity.

I am proud of the number of women I have impacted. Like I mentioned before, I get so many messages and comments from women who are encouraged and inspired by what I do!

I would say my silly personality and attention to detail are the two things that set me apart the most! I like to have fun and that shows in my videos. I also make sure to provide the necessary information (item price, size, etc.), so that my supporters can make the best choices for their body type.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Never doubt yourself!

There have been so many times that I wanted to give up or thought, “no one even cares… so why am I even doing this?” My faith in Jesus Christ has given me the strength to persevere and push through! If God has given you the vision, don’t ever doubt the plan that He has for your life. If He’s given you the vision, all you have to do is execute it.
