Life and Work with Jasmine Stamper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Stamper.

Jasmine fell in love with makeup at the young age of eight. She used to play in her mother’s collection of makeup. Nonetheless, it wasn’t until later that she would learn that her passion was in the makeup industry.

Jasmine attended Albany State University, where she struggled with finding her purpose in life. She did not know exactly what career she would pursue; however, she did know that she wanted to be able to impact others’ lives in a positive manner. While in college, Jasmine completed simple but elegant looks for her friends in the dormitory. She never imagined that this intriguing hobby would become her life’s passion.

Having completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Science degree in Psychology, she began coursework for her Ph.D. in Psychology but Jasmine realized this is not what made her happy. So she decided to step out on faith and follow her dream, something that made her truly happy. She attended the Industry Makeup Academy in Atlanta, GA and became a certified Make-Up Artist.

Since becoming certified, Jasmine attended several seminars with prominent artists such as Sam Fine, Renny Vasquez, and Tamanna Roashan to further educate herself in the industry. Jasmine ultimately wants to empower women, through conversation and education but she also seeks to enhance their innate beauty through encouraging their confidence. By doing this, she can reinforce that true beauty comes from within and that by “STAMPING” a face, she is only amplifying their natural beauty.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Challenges came from not knowing my worth, questioning my skill set, working and being a mother and a wife. My advice would be to not compare your life/journey/success to others. Your “chapter two” shouldn’t look like someone else’s “chapter fifty”. Also, always remember why you started and you’ll never give up.

Please tell us about JayStamped LLC, StampHer Cosmetics.
I am a make-up artist. I’m known for natural, flawless applications. My specialty is weddings. I love to glam brides, “Stamp” their faces and make them feel beautiful for their special day! I’m most proud that I followed my passion vs following the route that others thought I should take. I followed my heart and I’ve never turned back.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Don’t be discouraged if you reach out for mentorship and they are not receptive. That could be what propels you to be greater. Invest in yourself and travel to gain knowledge. Always be reachable, teachable and remain humble.
