Life and Work with Jennifer Fancher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Fancher.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve really been into cooking ever since I graduated from college and started living on my own. Several years ago, I started posting some of the food I would make on my personal Instagram account. I always received good feedback from my friends and family. They enjoyed seeing my posts since they were usually pretty healthy and easy food to recreate. Anytime, I didn’t post for awhile, they would ask me about it and encourage me to do so. During a trip to Boston, one of my friends commented on a recent food post and referred to it as a “jenbowl”. We started talking about how that could be a good name for my foodie Instagram account, which I immediately started when I arrived back home. Instead of going with the former though, I choose @jensbowl to be my username.

My account started with zero followers, so I feel like I’ve built it from the ground up. I’m shocked that in just 7 months it’s grown to 3,000+ followers. I have definitely found since starting this account, I’ve become more creative in the kitchen and it keeps me from eating the same foods all the time! I also love the community factor. I’ve met so many amazing people and formed many new friendships. I’ve been fortunate to meet quite a few Atlanta foodies in real life. Without this platform, we probably would’ve never met!

I’m looking forward to continuing to grow my account and collaborate with some really cool people I’ve met through it!

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. I wanted to do an account similar to this years before I ever made @jensbowl. I created a couple accounts in the past that featured my food but shut them down pretty quickly because I was self-conscious about what others would think. Looking back, I wish I had not let that get in my way and pursued what I was passionate about.

Advice for other women who are starting their journey is to get out of your own way and do what you love. Who cares what others think. If it makes you happy then that’s all that matters.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with jensbowl – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I make simple, healthy and colorful meals usually in a bowl. I’m more into savory food than sweet so you’ll find me making more egg bowls than smoothie bowls. I always include greens and most of the time you’ll find an avocado too. I love using watermelon radish as well for it’s vibrant color.

I don’t really follow recipes. I like to create my own or find inspiration from photos I see online, in cookbooks or magazines. I want others to look at my food and think, “Oh, I could easily make that for myself!”

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Don’t let self-consciousness or others opinions get in your way and don’t play the comparison game. Do what you love.
