Life and Work with Joi Nicole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joi Nicole.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had an interest in fashion whether it was my obsession with buying every single fashion magazine every month, to being in charge of visuals/merchandising at every single retail job, or begging stylist to let me shadow them on any shoot. Because of that persistence, I was able to assist a stylist here in Atlanta by the name of (Marcus John). From there, I realized that this was my niche and it was time for me to step out on my own. I began networking and collaborating with so many amazing creatives here in Atlanta that yielded numerous opportunities over the years. I am so thankful and grateful for all of the mentors, motivators, and friends that pushed me to see what they’ve always seen in me!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely hasn’t been the smoothest of roads but I wouldn’t have it any other way! Every mistake made was a learning experience, every transition was an opportunity for growth, every loss was a gain in the end. After seven years of styling, I would have to say the key is CONSISTENCY! You will have those creative blocks and seemingly everyone else is in motion, but it is in those times that you have to look at how far you’ve come, set some goals for yourself and hit the ground running. Piece of advice I would give other women looking to begin their styling or fashion journey is, more than anything believe in YOURSELF! Set goals, no matter the size and slaughter them! Don’t be afraid to network and collaborate with other creatives. You never know the magic you could create when you join forces with others on that same mission of greatness. All in all, it is YOUR journey!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a wardrobe stylist here in Atlanta. In the last seven years, I have worked with an extensive list of brands, amazingly talented, notable photographers such as Allen Cooley, Hannibal Mathews, Drexina Nelson, 335MM, Revive the Cool, and Gil Green on multiple video shoots. Having the honor to be published in numerous Magazines has been nothing short of a BLESSING.

Over the years, I have developed a penchant for highlighting a women’s physique, with an eye for tailoring and effortlessly fusing structure and comfort mixed in with tomboy touches. I’ve built a reputation in the industry for being more than just a stylist, I love to create, organize and all around I plan to continue to elevate within my industry. I am constantly motivated and inspired by my peers especially my female crusaders! I am most proud of myself for still having that same passion and for never giving up. I am so grateful to have made it this far, even to be recognized by my peers and the amazing opportunities I have been so blessed to be apart of have continuously provided an anchor for me to stay on my journey!

Who have you been inspired by?
The women that inspire me in life are the women who are loud on their paths of growth and making names for themselves no matter the industry! Who are relentless in their passions and who stop at nothing to elevate and break barriers and shatter ceilings! All the while, not stepping on her fellow sister or dimming her light but pulling her up to join you at the table. In the climate of pinning women against each other, we should be uplifting and championing one another. I always see it as she wins we all win!
