Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Schanck.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my real estate career in 2001 in Atlanta. At the time, I was working in retail management, when I was encouraged by a close friend who was in real estate to consider a career change. He was my inspiration and here I am 18 years later!
Over the years, I have built a successful business based on referrals and repeat clients. My team consists of a buyers agent, marketing specialist and closing coordinator and we specialize in helping buyers and sellers in the Intown neighborhoods of Atlanta–from West Midtown to Decatur and all of the neighborhoods in between!
I have been a consistent Top Producer with Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Midtown for the last 14 years. I am a member of Keller Williams Realty Luxury International as well as Live Luxury Atlanta, and have served on my office ALC (Agent Leadership Council) for the past 4 years.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a Realtor is not without challenges. The hardest time for me was during the crash of 2007-2009. To survive the recession, I had to be very resourceful, but I learned some very important lessons during that time and am much better off because of it. One important lesson was to make saving and budgeting a top priority. Real estate can have some ups and downs, especially at the beginning of your career, so it is crucial to plan your finances accordingly.
Please tell us about Atlanta Homes by Katie & Robby.
We specialize in working with Intown Atlanta buyers and sellers and work with many types of clients and properties, but I am a condo/townhome specialist, having personally purchased and sold several townhomes in Atlanta.
Atlanta has many different types of condominiums and townhomes all over the city and it is important to work with someone who really understands the intricacies of condo buying and selling. My knowledge of HOA’s, special financing and more is crucial for my clients.
What sets me apart in my almost 20-year career is my ultimate love for what I do and for the people I work with. I have such a wonderful team to support me and to ensure that our clients have the smoothest and most professional experience during each home purchase and sale. A real estate transaction can be an emotional time for my clients and I want to help guide them through the process with the least amount of stress possible.
With 18 years in the business, I pride myself on growing and maintaining a large network of lenders and home services providers of every stripe so that I can be a complete home services resource for my clients at any time. I am their Realtor for life and love working with them and their families as they move through all the phases of life!
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I have been extremely fortunate to have several wonderful mentors over the years. As a Keller Williams agent, I am surrounded but wonderful role models, as well as excellent training, and classes. My advice would be to reach out to professionals that you respect and want to model your business after. Align yourself with a company and broker that both challenges you and makes you feel comfortable and confident in their guidance and mentorship.
