Life and Work with Kirsten Daniel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Daniel.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my start at Grand Hustle in 2007. I began as an intern but soon landed a job as co-CEO, Jason Geters’ assistant, where I was able to have a front-row seat in learning the music business. Throughout the years, Jason and I have continued to work on many albums, projects, and businesses together. It was through my experience working with clothing brands, Akoo, Hustle Gang, and Strivers Row that lead to the birth of my brand, Ateaelle (pronounced, ATL).

As an executive in the urban music space and being from Atlanta, where all the biggest hip-hop stars dwell, I deemed it important to pay homage to this great city. Ateaelle has given me an opportunity to connect directly with the community and create a space attributed to pieces of Atlanta that will one day no longer exist. Hence, our top selling ‘Old Atlanta’ shirts. Our goal is to create a sense of nostalgia while evoking conversation and continued adoration throughout the city.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As the saying goes, ‘Nothing worth having comes easy,’ but it’s certainly been a beautiful and adventurous journey. The greatest lesson I’ve learned is to act on those ideas that you can’t stop thinking about and never be afraid to pivot.

Please tell us about your work. What are you most proud of and what sets you apart from others?
I am an entrepreneur. I own Ateaelle and co-own The Certified Agency where we manage artists and producers. My specialty is in marketing and management. I love being a part of projects from conception through completion. I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built throughout the city. I’ve met some great people who have not only opened the door for business opportunities but that have also become lifelong friends.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
See it through. Don’t stop working towards those ideas you feel in your gut until they no longer work for you. Also, don’t sleep on networking across. Create circles of people with the same passion as you and hold each other accountable for the work.
