Today we’d like to introduce you to Kripa Bhatt.
Kripa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating from college, I wanted to pursue my dream of becoming a professional makeup artist. During college, I used to work part-time as an assistant to the senior makeup artists for many events especially weddings. When I decided that I wanted to be professional makeup artist full time, I enrolled in the Atlanta Makeup Academy and received my certifications. Since then, I have diversified and have been doing Makeup and Hair services for Weddings, Proms, Sweet Sixteen, Fashion Shows, Photoshoots, Video music albums and Celebrities. I have been a professional makeup artist for over 6 years.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey of being a professional makeup artist was challenging due to balancing between being a full-time mother of special need child and working as a freelance makeup artist. There were many times where I had to juggle my work around my child’s school and his therapy sessions. I had to improve my organization skills as it was very important to schedule the client’s appointment around my child’s school and his therapy sessions. The other struggle was on how to build new clientele. Word of mouth was the best advertisement. However, being proactive on social media such as Facebook, Instagram or web page to showcase your work is extremely important. My advice to anyone starting a career as a makeup artist would be to get a Facebook or Instagram page created right away so you are able to post your work along with getting certified.
Please tell us about Shiya’s Glamour.
I am professional make-up artist specializing in weddings, proms, sweet sixteen, fashion shows, photoshoots, video music albums and celebrities. I am known for my airbrush makeup techniques. My diversity in working in all areas, make-up and hair sets me apart from a regular makeup artist.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I follow the guidelines of Napoleon Hill from his book “Think and Grow Rich”. The principles in the book has guided me through all phases of my make-up artist career. I have read “Ask and Its Given” by Esther and Jerry Hicks which has helped me in achieving the goals.
