Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Farber.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Monica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I hold a BFA from the University of West Georgia and an M.A. in Commercial Photography from SCAD Atlanta. Following grad school, I worked for Philips for about seven years in communications, managing newsletters, video blogs, and company events at Philips Arena (which is now State Farm Arena). After spending a couple of years managing a fashion and lifestyle blog, and attending NYFW multiple times a year, I knew that I had to get out of corporate comms, as the corporate world was definitely not for me and I needed something more creative to write about/talk about/shoot. So, I left Philips and went to work for a large restaurant group here in Atlanta where I managed all social media for their 13 brands. After many months of thinking about WHY I am doing this for someone else, I left and started Hello Fancy Media… one month ago. I offer full-service social media management and/or photography services for the use of social media marketing, as well as a few other a la carte services. I am happy to expand on this story more eloquently, but this is a brief synopsis.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? Absolutely not. Unless you’re a unicorn, you won’t see success immediately. You need to be willing to put in the time and work. Make a plan for what you need to do to get to the next step. Accept failures as learning experiences. And above all, know that you will never feel “ready”, just make the move and make it happen.
