Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadeen White.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nadeen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I call myself a physician by night and a blogger by day. After years of pursuing my medical degree and then practicing as a Pediatrician, I wanted to explore my love of travel, food, wine, art, and culture. I started a blog called The Sophisticated Life to share these passions with family and friends. I had no idea what “blogging” was at the time. Once I joined a few Facebook groups, I realized the opportunities that could come from blogging. More importantly, I wanted to reach as many people as possible to inspire them to travel. The world is a beautiful place and I love getting to know people of different races, cultures, and religion. I do believe that “travel breeds tolerance.” I have been building my blog and brand for years and I am humbled by the success it has achieved. My brand is me and I think that’s why it resonates with people and why I connect with my readers and followers. I believe you can and should pursue all your passions in life. I work hard but I enjoy being a blogger, an influencer, a businesswoman and a physician.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of my major struggles with blogging is the technical aspects. I enjoy writing travel stories, taking and sharing pictures and interacting with my readers and followers. But behind all of that is the technical work that keeps a blog up and running. Before I was making money on my blog, I decided to invest in a Virtual Assistant to manage the technical aspects of the blog. It has been worth it. My advice is to hire help if needed. The time it takes to read articles, books, take webinars and go to conferences when you could just hire help and spend time on the things you are good at and enjoy doing, is worth the money. The other big struggle for me is time management, I have to stay very organized in order to run a blog business and work as a physician. Figure out what works best for you in terms of using organizers, journals and/or your iPhone to organize your life. Assign deadlines to your tasks and complete them. I feel so good when I have crossed things off my to-do list.
Please tell us about The Sophisticated Life.
I am an award-winning luxury travel and lifestyle blogger. I share personal experiences of traveling around the world. I also write travel guides for popular destinations such as South Africa, Thailand, Dubai, and Cuba. Food and wine are a big part of my travels and blog. I always explore the local food scene and top restaurants. I am a wine enthusiast, so if the destination has wineries or vineyards then you can find me there. I am very proud of the fact that people use my travel guides to make their travel drams come true. I break things down into what the place is like, the history and feel of the place, where to stay, what to see, where to eat and where to drink. I usually post to social media in real time while traveling so that my followers can get a real sense of the destination.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Work hard and be honest with yourself about your own goals and what you are willing to sacrifice to achieve it. Accept help from others along this path.
