Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Casanova.
Nadia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
While being a stay-at-home mom may be a dream for some I on the other hand always wanted to pursue my passion for Interior Design.
When my youngest son turned one I began looking at options for internship and schooling, While I was on that journey, I found out Interior Design wasn’t a field I was going to be able to break in easily. Going into these design studios no one looked like me nor we’re they interested in what I had to offer; and at that moment, I thought why not start a youtube channel sharing what I love.
I was never big on being on social media nor did I have any idea what I was stepping into but I knew I had enough ambition and drive to be successful. Over the course of the last (3) three years, I have been sharing almost every aspect of homeownership from what it takes to design and the everyday upkeep, and that has proven to work for me. My Instagram currently has 30,000 followers, and my Youtube is just shy of one thousand subscribers to hit 100,000 subscribers. I can’t say the journey was easy nor can say I was always happy, but what I can say is the same people and companies that said no are now reaching out to work with me an I do think that is great because now, I’m the one saying no.
I would tell anyone follows your passion, even if your the only one that believes in yourself.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth, to say the least. People are disrespectful, intrusive, and the payout isn’t always great. With YouTube, I’m editing one to two hour out of a twelve hour day into ten minutes and from those ten minutes, people feel as though they have your entire life figured out when the truth is they are getting a watered down version.
With all that, I still say press on and keep grinding because when you get an email from that company you’ve been cyber stalking for six months and they not only want to work with you but they also want to compensate you, you forget everything and it truly birth an entirely new driving force of an attitude that you have to continue.
My advice to other young women who are just starting their journey is to follow your gut instinct and pray. Don’t venture into anything trying to prove someone wrong; prove yourself right.
Please tell us about Styledby Casanova.
Currently, I’m a part-time Interior Stylist and a full- time YouTuber. I’m mainly known for my home decor and cleaning. My proudest moment to date was representing ELF cosmetic in New York and landing a deal with Overstock.
One thing I can say that sets me apart from others is I’m not doing any of this for the views or the money. I am genuinely happy waking up doing what I love. I want to build a brand so I have no interest in anything that isn’t in line with my that.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Growing up, I absolutely hated my childhood, I thought my dad and mom were hard on me.
I remember wanted to get braids and my dad said he would call out one of his guys and I was to take their place in order to get the ($180.00)one hundred and eighty dollars I needed for my braids. I was sixteen and seventeen going on a construction site with my dad to work; I thought this guy was crazy, but once I got to work I enjoyed it. I helped with tile, paint, etc. I think I just enjoyed the fact that my dad valued my opinion. If he saw something and he was unsure he’d ask me “what do you think”, and that felt really good.
As an adult, mom, partner, homeowner all those little things are now big things that I’ve implemented in my life. That’s the reason my platform is set up in the manner that it is. I paint, change the light fixture, caulk, trim, etc. We’ve been able to save several thousands of dollars in labor in our home projects because of the structure my father set for me and my siblings, so I’ve very grateful.
