Life and Work with Nephiah Whittaker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nephiah Whittaker.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nephiah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing makeup around the age of 16, while I was in high school. I remember arching and doing my friend’s eyebrows in the bathroom for a while then I stopped because I would get caught. I didn’t start taking makeup seriously after my first heartbreak/breakup. My ex told me that I couldn’t do more than one thing at a time and that I was doing too much. Me being n Aries, I took that and ran with it. I started actually doing makeup and actually getting booked in January of this year. I honestly had no clue I would come this far. I’ve been through so much throughout this past year and I wanted to give up multiple times, but I look back at how far I’ve come, and I use that as motivation.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has been one of the most self-challenging years! I’ve thought about giving up numerous amounts of times!!! My biggest problem that I faced was support. When I started doing makeup, I had 0 to no support. I still don’t honestly, but I learned that everyone isn’t going to support you. I thought my family and closest friends were going to be with me 100% but it turned out to be complete strangers that were instead. My advice to my peers would be to stay focused no matter what and to NEVER give up. If God blesses you with a talent and a vision, take advantage of it. A lot of people aren’t blessed with the opportunities given❗️ If you stay focused, success will come.

Please tell us about The StrappedCollection.
I am an upcoming, self-taught makeup artist. I’m known for having many other talents such as doing hair, and styling. I also have my own YouTube channel, and I’ll be launching my own clothing line this fall! But I specialize in makeup. I’ve been doing makeup seriously for almost a year now. The main focus on my makeup is the natural, but bold look. I’m most proud of my success as a brand. When I started The Strapped Collection, I started with NOTHING. I had no outside resources or anyone to help me jump start beside YouTube. I am literally a self-taught makeup artist, I’ve researched and taught myself everything I know now. What sets me apart I feel is the fact that I’m genuine and as real as it gets. I think that’s why a lot of people respect me and my hustle.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Honestly, when I was a child. I wasn’t that much into makeup. Surprising, I was more of a hairstylist. I was twisting and flat ironing my hair around the age of 12/13. Throughout middle and high school, I was doing everyone’s hair. It wasn’t until I got to college when I started dipping and dabbling in makeup.
