Today we’d like to introduce you to Octavia March.
Octavia March is a dynamic music producer, songwriter, radio imager & business executive.
Post-secondary years were spent at American InterContinental University in Atlanta, Georgia, which fostered my interest in and mastery of music production; chiefly audio software/hardware and engineering. I went on to receive a BA in Fine Arts from AIU. Never one to rest on my laurels, I launched iHandlebars Productions in October of 2009.
2010- 2013
I worked at V103 Atlanta, where I worked as Technical Producer to the Ryan Cameron Morning show, imaging director where I wrote and produced imaging for both V103 & News & Talk 1380 WAOK. I also briefly had my very own show alongside Lil Bankhead & Dj Kash.
2011-2012
By serving dual capacity for the station as both imager and technical producer, I continued to prove my knowledge and versatility in ALL areas of audio production, including production credits on Big Tiggers syndicated radio show “Live In the Den with Big Tigger” & Nick Cannons syndicated show: “Cannon’s Countdown.”
2013-2015:
In 2013, I quit V103 to give music my full focus & I began to manage Sony Music/Bad Boy South’s spin off-label Block Entertainment Studio’s.
2015:
I left Blocks studio but continued on my music path & I got a call from Chris Carmouche looking for an assistant engineer at Stankonia studios, so I took on the task, learned & honed my skills as an engineer all in that year. (Chris’ credits include but are not limited to: Outkast, Beyonce, Chris Brown & Pitbull)
2017:
I produced & was accredited for, four different instrumentals that were individually placed on content for Kevin Harts Laugh Out Loud Network.
2017- present:
I was called on by the lifestyle specialist Kenny Burns to engineer and produce the Baller Alert Show.
2016 – present:
I was called on by Damian Lewis (program director of Mix 877) along with Steve Hegwood (owner of Streetz 94.5 & Mix 877) to produce the Porsche Foxx Show in the afternoons, I worked with her for two years. Then Steve moved her to mornings & I stayed in the afternoons & went on to produce the Michael Baisden syndicated show, the Atlanta market.
2010- Present
I’ve always been doing freelance production, engineering & radio imaging.
Few of my clients/markets: WOSL Cincinnati, WPZE Praise Atl, WSTR Streetz 94.5 Atl, WGCI Chicago, Majic 102.1 Houston, Magic 102.5 Atl, V103 Atl,Clear Channel, Mix 877, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Magic 95.5 Columbus Ga, Magic 107.5/97.5 Atl, Jazze Phae, Teddy Riley, Greg Street, Kenny Burns, & many more.
Has it been a smooth road?
The main challenge I’ve faced so far, & still working to overcome today is finding my voice. A lot of times as a producer it’s all about the client, holding my opinion by simply listening & what they want. But I’m to the point in my career now where I’m turning down projects that don’t align with my passion.
My advice: put God first, learn, create, inspire; go towards fear, each one teaches one & lastly, it’s never too late, for time is only an illusion. Love you, believe in you.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with iHandlebars Productions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am an overall producer, I write the idea out, find the elements & create the vision. In music, film, radio, any media outlet I create content through sound.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
Encouraging one another & helping each other up.
