Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina M. Sewell.
Regina, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was the closeted artist, truth-seeker, and healer for years and I didn’t even know it. Introverted and shy, I lacked confidence in my abilities to be a creative. I found the educational path, getting credentials after my name, to be rewarding while in school. In the world however, the credentials did not make me happy. Yes, it got me in the door, got me the job, but I wasn’t happy. I equated the education and job with happiness. I was thankful and depressed. I was successful and miserable.
Around about 2009/2010, I started exploring more non-traditional spiritual practices. I started acknowledging different expressions of my personality that I was hiding such as my desire to live freely through expression and spirituality, to travel, to go on my own life’s adventure, to make mistakes, fall on my face and get back up again and live to tell about it. I began exploring energy healing through Reiki practice and using Oracles and Tarot as ways to visualize and actualize my creative ambitions.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have struggled with lack of self-confidence and self-worth for years. I was fearful and cautious for every move and never took a risk until not taking the risk showed up as a depressing life experience. Some very important people in my life died at critical points of transition in my life: my father, my sister, then my mother. Something in me desired to live and to affirm that I belonged here and I had to be the one to step up and into my higher calling.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
My work involves healing and affirmative spiritual development coaching. Affirming your worth, meaning, and purpose of living through creative and spiritually based practices. I am a clinically trained mental health counselor and healing artist with training and mentorship from master metaphysical teachers in the intuitive and spiritual arts including Reiki (Reiki Master) and Voyager Tarot (Certified Voyager Counselor). I also incorporate my training and professional experience in African diasporic music, dance, and rituals to personalize my clients’ practices and experiences.
I see my role as a Creative Life Navigator, a Healing Expressionist and Integrator. My own life has been a path of creative life navigation, turning pain into possibilities, spiritual transitions, and healing that has resulted in me sharing my experiences for the benefit of others.
What sets me apart is the use of the Voyager Tarot Counseling system created by Dr. James Wanless. Voyager Tarot is a 21st century holistic and multicultural archetypal roadmap of fortune creation of your emotional, physical, spiritual and mental realities for getting down to earth results in life. I have used the cards as meditation, inspiration, and activating tools for my personal and professional growth.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I believe women, women of color, have a unique advantage in reflecting to the world the temperature and wellness of a society. When we are tuned in to who we are, owning our own “stuff” and taking full responsibility and authorship of our lives, we show up in full authenticity in every relationship. We set the example and model best practices for a healthy society. We accept difference as the standard rather than something that needs to be muted to bring people together.
For my women on the journey, I encourage you to be YOU, NOW! Do not wait until all of your bills are paid, kids are grown, and the house is bought until you heal and live from your truest self. Go on your healing journey now. Seek out support from a therapist, a spiritual intuitive coach, and supportive and affirming community. Show up as you, regardless of what people think.
