Today we’d like to introduce you to Rumana Ali.
Rumana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started as a makeup artist for a big brand about 9 years ago! After years of working in different positions within the company, learning the art of clienteling, and meeting so many successful people who work in the beauty industry… I was inspired to leave and pursue a freelance makeup artistry career on my own! I’ve been working for myself now about 4 months, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Often times, we get stuck in fear of “what if this doesn’t work?!” And we end up not trying – I say if there something out there you want to do, go for it because it may just work out!
Has it been a smooth road?
There are ups and downs with anything we do in life – especially entrepreneurship! For anyone just starting or thinking about starting something on their own, my advice would be to focus on the ups! Use the down times to brainstorm and continue creating! There will be times you feel discouraged and want to give up, feel it and move forward! Don’t give up, own the ups AND downs! It’s important to consistently network with people who are in your field of work and build relationships. Learn from the people who inspire you!

As to makeup artists/creatives, each one of us has something that sets us apart from the next. My niche is beauty makeup and GLAM! Customer service is at the top of my priority list! I try my best to create a comfortable experience for my clients because I know and understand makeup is very personal! It’s important to me that I keep my client’s individuality intact.
Who have you been inspired by?
I am surrounded by SO MANY strong, dedicated women! Whether they’re full-time moms, business owners or makeup artists – I learn from each one of them! My biggest inspiration is my mother, she’s the true definition of hard work and grace all wrapped up so beautifully in one! She’s ONE of so many amazing, intelligent women in my life I can go on and on answering this question! I admire women so much and I think it’s important for us to keep building each other up – we are everything!!!
