Life & Work with Shanikia “The Healthy Hair Doctor” George

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanikia George.

Hi Shanikia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
Hi! I’m Shanikia George, owner of Press Express Hair Salon. I was born and raised in Monroe, LA. As a young girl, I was fascinated by hair. I loved playing with my dolls and creating new styles. After high school, I attended Cloyd’s Beauty School and obtained my license in Master Cosmetology. Since graduating, I have acquired many years of experience in the beauty and hair industry. My artistic talents include all aspects of hair but helping my clients maintain healthily. Natural hair is my specialty. I provide professional solutions and support for those who may have various issues with their hair. I also provide services for bridal parties and special events. For all your healthy hair care needs, come to Press Express Hair Salon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I 1st moved to the metro Atlanta area, Instagram wasn’t as popular as it is now. So I had to really put in work with some heavy foot traffic. Everyday I would pass out flyers that showed my talents. I would go to different areas passing out flyers all over the Gwinnett area.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well when it come to work, it’s more of a passion for me. Although it is work, I just see it as doing what I love & loving what I do. When you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life! Although sometimes being a master stylist & salon owner can be quite challenging at times, however that’s what keeps me striving to wanna learn & create new techniques along the way. As I learn new things, I also like to have classes to teach other stylist the different techniques & trends that often change in hair industry. In “Learning With Lady Bass”, I teach different methods on custom wig making, micro-link installations, natural hair care, & entrepreneurship.

What matters most to you?
What matters to me the most is having amazing customer service and satisfying every one that walks through the doors of my salon. Being a hairstylist, we not only touch hair; we also touch hearts. When you look good, you feel good. As hairstylists, we make women feel beautiful inside & out.
