Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Evans.
Tara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Photography has always been my passion. I always loved to capture life’s precious moments through the lens of my camera. My first camera was a polaroid that my grandmother owned, from there to a throwaway camera… lol. This love has taking me many place and caused me to meet some extrodinary people. Photography is just the vehicle that has afforded me such joy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, there has been many highs and lows. Living in a world where everything is so visual and trends are always changing. You have to remind yourself that you do not always have to have the latest and greatest to master your craft. Remember that, “comparison is the thief of joy” (Theodore Roosevelt). Inspiration and Imitation are two different things. Always be inspired, but do not imitate, create your own. The key is to continue to educate yourself and know your craft like the back of your hand, and the rest is a by product. Strengthen your weakness.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tara Harp Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I like to call myself “the people’s photographer”. I love people, anything involving people I capture. I specialize in capturing the essence of you (people). I am known for Weddings, Newborns, Seniors, Branding, and Life moments.
I am a very passionate and caring individual, with that being said photography is a type of ministry for me. I love to see people transform in the mist of a session. Perhaps they came in shy and nervous, but by the end of the session, they leave filled with confidence and a new outlook. The same thing goes on a wedding day as chaotic as the day can get I help bring a peace in the midst of it all. I love to capture timeless moments that will be memorable for generations.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I am a firm believer in the principle that “iron sharpens iron”. I myself had a mentor that helped me to turn my passion into a business. Networking is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people. Find someone that inspires you and reach out to them and ask if they offer mentorship or internship opportunities. You will be surprised on who will say yes. Do not be afraid to ask, and do not feel rejected if you receive a no. Keep learning and as you develop try again. One thing I will say is investing in your craft is so important that’s when you will get the greatest return.
