Life & Work with Afolabi Sogunro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Afolabi Sogunro.

Hi Afolabi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
As a teenager, I remember buying “one-time use” cameras from Eckerd (Now CVS). Once I’ve used up all the film, I would take it back there to get the film developed. I could not wait to see what I captured. Over the years, I continued to shoot events for friends and family. I was the guy who always had a camera on him, and everyone knew I would capture good photos. I honestly only saw photography as a hobby and nothing more. Fast forward several years, I got married and was working in IT. My wife came home one day with a photography school flyer she saw at a neighborhood Publix. She encouraged me to take some classes at the school, and I agreed. I truly enjoyed everything I learned and decided I wanted to pursue my love for photography. Fotos by Fola was born! I reached out to several friends and shot their engagement and family photos. I also posted ads on Craigslist and on Facebook. I posted images on my blog, and once I had a decent portfolio, I launched my website in 2009.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with most businesses, the road is never smooth, but it always gets better. I remember when I started off and knew I had the ability to take good photos but did not have the portfolio to prove it. I had to stick with photography simply for the love of Photography as I was barely getting any paid jobs. However, since I loved shooting, I kept at it and eventually developed a well-rounded portfolio and also developed some crucial relationships in the industry.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer based in Atlanta, GA. I specialize in Weddings, Maternity, Family, and Corporate Photography.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I loved soccer! I knew the stats of players/teams and watched soccer TV shows religiously. I also loved playing basketball with my friends. For most part, I was a very reserved kid and enjoyed the company of just a few friends.
