Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex & Jenn Buntin.
Hi Alex & Jenn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Mind Your Biscuits Bakeshop started in April 2025 as a simple summer plan: give Alex a way to earn some extra money, stay busy, and learn a little about running a business. What began as a small charity bake sale over spring break quickly turned into a licensed cottage bakery based in Roswell, Georgia. We come from a long line of home bakers, and many of our recipes are inspired by family favorites that have been around for generations. Baking together has always been our way to slow down, connect, and spend time side by side in the kitchen. Some of our best family memories are tied to testing recipes, feeding a crowd, and finding any excuse to make something sweet to share.
These days we bake a little bit of everything, but we’re especially known for our sourdough breads, cookies, and scones. We also make dry baking mixes and small-batch jams sourced from local farms. You can find us at markets around Roswell and at our roadside cookie cart, which has become a fun little neighborhood stop. We love using high-quality ingredients, shopping local when we can, and keeping things interesting with rotating seasonal flavors. Getting to meet neighbors, hear their favorites, and see familiar faces each week has become one of the best parts of this whole adventure.
Our ingredient choices are personal, too. One of Alex’s close friends is allergic to red dye and often couldn’t enjoy store-bought treats. That really stuck with us, and it’s a big reason we focus on simple ingredients and skip artificial dyes and preservatives. We want more kids (and grown-ups) to feel like there’s something at the table for them.
More than anything, Mind Your Biscuits is about community and learning together. Alex is getting a real-life education in responsibility, confidence, and leadership with every bake day and market morning. Giving back is part of what we do, so a portion of each sale supports a local charity that changes with the seasons. We believe good food brings people together — and if it can do a little good at the same time, that’s even better.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the cottage bakery process. Alex originally operated under Georgia’s Lemonade Stand Act, which allows kids to run small businesses without licenses and permits, but as things grew, we had to shift into setting up a fully structured operation. There are a lot of requirements that come with running a cottage bakery, from licensing and insurance to food safety certifications and maintaining strict kitchen standards. It’s been a learning experience, but also something we’re proud of, and we’ve worked hard to do things the right way. It’s also been a great learning experience for Alex!
Another challenge has been keeping up with demand as we’ve grown. What started small quickly picked up momentum, and learning how to scale, plan ahead, and prep efficiently has definitely been a curve. We’re constantly figuring out how to balance production while still keeping the quality and care that made people love our baked goods in the first place.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Mind Your Biscuits Bakeshop, we’re a mother-daughter micro-bakery based in Roswell, specializing in small-batch baked goods made with simple, high-quality ingredients. We’re best known for our sourdough breads, cookies, and scones, along with dry baking mixes and homemade jams. Our menu rotates with the seasons, and we love getting creative while still staying rooted in classic, comforting flavors. Customer favorites include our original sourdough loaves, chocolate chip cookies, and seasonal favorites like our orange cardamon scones or chocolate espresso cookies.
What we’re most proud of is that this business is about more than just baking — it’s about building confidence, responsibility, and real-world skills for Alex while creating genuine connections in our community. From our roadside cookie cart to local markets, we’ve built relationships with neighbors who come back week after week. We also focus on using ingredients families can feel good about, avoiding artificial dyes and unnecessary preservatives whenever possible. Giving back is part of who we are, too, with a portion of each sale supporting a rotating local charity.
What really sets us apart is the heart behind it all. This isn’t a big commercial operation — it’s family recipes, hands-on learning, and a lot of love packed into every batch. People aren’t just buying bread or cookies; they’re supporting a young entrepreneur, a local family, and a small business that truly cares about the community it serves.
What does success mean to you?
Profitability matters, but for us, real success is building confidence in Alex and serving our local community. When customers come back two days in a row or cars are lined up waiting for us to open, that’s when we know we’re doing something right.
