Life & Work with Alexis Galloway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Galloway. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Embroidery Coach, Brother Educator & creator of My Pretty Perfect (Embroidery) Planner, Alexis Galloway has cleverly combined her passion for crafting and embroidery with a natural talent for instructing. Always finding a unique way of sharing her gift and getting others to love this craft as much as she does.

She’s a witty vibrant creative that was introduced to sewing and crafting early in life by her mother. Her distinct laid-back teaching style is the key to taking the frustration out of learning embroidery. You can often hear her reciting her favorite catchphrase “It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it has to be PRETTY!” It reminds everyone that mistakes will come but that’s where the true learning takes place.

After years of working in healthcare, Alexis traded in her scrubs for a ring light and a vibrant Facebook group. In the fall of 2019, she opened Sew Sweet Academy, a machine embroidery membership community where she goes step by step, stitch by stitch, guiding her members through their projects from start to finish.

When she is not at home with her outgoing daughter, she is out traveling the world experiencing new foods and cultures.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. In fact, my road has been full of twists and turns with quite a few ups and downs. A few of the growing pains include learning how to combine technology and embroidery. These are typically 2 different worlds that are very necessary for this day and age to run a business…a virtual business!

I have had to learn how to build websites, create email lists, lead magnets, and tackle the AV woes that come with wanting to get my tutorials out to the world.

When I began on this path, I thought it would be as simple as sitting at my machine and creating handmade items while showing others how to do the same.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I help take the frustration out of learning machine embroidery and ultimately turning your hobby into a profitable home-based embroidery business.

Sew Sweet Academy is a virtual and in-person way to teach thousands of stitchers all over the world how to embroider using fun tips and tricks without getting overwhelmed or frustrated.

We are mostly known for our fun Ship N’ Stitch events where you receive all supplies by mail needed to do a fun group stitch out. We then hop on zoom for a laid-back stitch session.

Every Sunday, you can catch us live on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Sewsweetacademy) or YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@sewsweetacademy) at 5p est for a seasonal stitch out of all sorts of techniques to include applique logos, patches, hats, or “in the hoop” designs.

What sets us apart is our safe learning environment where we encourage making mistakes because that is where true learning takes place. Our motto is “It Doesn’t Have To Be Perfect, But It Has To Be PRETTY!”
