Life & Work with Alexis Smith of Duluth GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Smith

Hi Alexis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My dream of becoming a photographer started with spending quality time with her great grandma Lizbeth and looking through all the portraits she had in her home. I took an interest in learning the story behind the portraits. Every picture tells a story. That’s what made me fall in love with photography. I appreciated capturing the moments in one click that will last a lifetime.

In 2020, I received my degree in photography from Gwinnett Technical College. Following that, I received my business management degree in 2022. As well as I started her internship with celebrity photographer Derek Blanks in 2020 and worked under him for three years. My work has been featured in Vogue Magazine,o had the opportunity to work with clients such as Black Magazine, and Weight Wear Magazine. I also have photographed Fantasia, Missy Elliot, Toni Braxton, Lil Mama, Mimi Faust, Wendy Raquel Robinson, and many more.

Currently, I just got off of a tour with Missy Elliott for her first headline tour and being able to look back to that little girl who started only by looking and taking pictures of the pictures at a young age, till now capturing the special moment of an icon it’s mind-blowing and I can’t thank anybody thank nobody but God.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t I am 25 years old, I started my business at 17 years old, and being A young black female photographer in this industry, I have to work three times harder than the average because the older generation doesn’t trust your judgment because you’re young. I am a very ambitious, outside-the-box thinker, so everything I do is over the top. When I explain my idea, some are like okay, let’s do it, and some give me that look like girl, bye, but that doesn’t stop me because that is the fun part about being creative, thinking outside of the box, and leaving people’s minds blown.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a portrait photographer, and I specialize in special effects portraits. I am known for my very ambitious ideas, and when given an Idea, I put a twist on it. I am most proud of what I have done currently It has been the most fun creating and capturing I have done in a minute. What sets me apart from others is I don’t think like others. the way I see a story or moment is so different.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I want creatives to remember why they fell in love with creating in the first place, remove the money, it is a job, and ask themselves what made them fall in love with being creative. My Goal in this next journey is to help creatives find their why again. Let’s have fun creating moments, moments that will last a lifetime
