Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Nevious.
Hi Amber, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After serving in the Army, I discovered a new mission through the lens of a camera. Photography became a way to channel the discipline and perspective I gained during my service into something creative and deeply personal. As a mother to two adventurous boys and an avid equestrian, I’m constantly inspired by movement, connection, and the raw, real moments that tell a story. Whether it’s the quiet strength in a portrait or the wild grace of a horse in motion, I aim to capture the beauty that often goes unnoticed.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t always been easy. Transitioning from military life to a creative career came with its own challenges: learning to slow down, embrace vulnerability, and navigate a completely different kind of structure. As a mother to two boys, balancing family life with the demands of building a photography business has tested my resilience more than once. There were times when self-doubt crept in, when progress felt slow, and when the juggle between passion and responsibility felt overwhelming. But through it all, my love for capturing honest, powerful moments—shaped by my experiences as a veteran and an equestrian—kept me grounded. Every struggle has helped shape not just the photographer I’ve become, but the person as well.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets me apart as a photographer is the blend of life experiences I bring to every shoot. My time in the Army taught me to be focused, adaptable, and calm under pressure—skills that translate into creating a relaxed and confident environment for my clients. As a mother of two boys, I understand the beauty in chaos and the power of capturing authentic, fleeting moments. And as an avid equestrian, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for movement, connection, and grace—qualities I strive to highlight in every image. My work is rooted in storytelling, emotion, and the details that often go unnoticed. I don’t just take photos—I create a space where people can feel seen, valued, and real.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Good luck has definitely played a role in my journey—but it’s always met me halfway. There have been moments when the right opportunity showed up at just the right time: a chance meeting with a client who turned into a long-term supporter, a last-minute booking that led to more referrals than I could’ve imagined, or simply being in the right place with my camera at the perfect moment. But those lucky breaks only mattered because I was ready. My experiences as an Army veteran, a mom, and an equestrian taught me how to stay prepared, show up fully, and keep pushing forward, even when the path wasn’t clear. Luck may have opened the door, but grit, passion, and persistence are what got me through it.
