Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Thomas.
Hi Andrea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I created Melanated Muse fall of 2021. Photography has always been something I’ve been passionate about and I wanted to create a space for people like me to express themselves unapologetically. (No judgement) I want people to know how dope they are through the eye of a lens. Present day, I’m booked and busy! My work is finally speaking for itself and I’ve received a lot of positive feedback.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, I have no complaints. My clients have been some of the easiest people to work with. I respect their opinions/ input and they trust my vision.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer and content creator for Melanated Muse.
I specialize in creating and capturing moments via photos. I help small businesses with promoting their merch. I also create props that are unique to each photo shoot.
I am most proud of all the support I’ve received along the way. Word of mouth has been my biggest marketing tool.
What sets Melanated Muse apart from all the others is my ability to be relatable. My goal is to make every client feel comfortable and beautiful. If the energy isn’t right, the pictures will show.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Well, photography has really helped me get out of my comfort zone. I am the face of Melanated Muse and I have to promote. No one is going to push your business like you will so you have to grind it out and keep going. Starting out you may only get 3 likes on the gram but don’t stop. As long as you’re consistent and authentic, the followers will come.
Not replicating other photographers has helped me out the most. It’s ok to be different and that’s what people will gravitate to.
