Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Ward.
Hi Andrea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
One day I woke up and didn’t like where my life was going, so I decided to turn my pain into power which lead me to being discovered by Mercedes Benz fashion week as a designer. For few years, I traveled the world showcasing my designs. Meanwhile, I was still trying short stories and poetry. It was my way of self-expression of art. Anything I put my mind to always told a story. A few years later, I was introduced to tv and film was on set of a Netflix project as an actor. It was from that point I just knew I found my calling in telling the untold stories, the ones we often do not hear about in Hollywood. As being part of a legacy until this day, my great aunt Billie holidays story still hasn’t been told properly with the real truth which inspired me even more to become a film director. After taking a chance on myself, I have over 15 nominations and eight wins in a short period of time with an amazing background. Everything that I do is to empower and inspire women like me and young girls that look up to me that anything is possible I went from being homeless and being a victim of abuse to now directing and writing feature films with a current project on BET. “Storms are temporary, the light will always shine after the storm” this quote is what inspired me to create my own production company “Redemption Images”.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was a very difficult journey, what was different was finding your way and figuring out what your purpose is. I had to learn through trials and tribulations
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an award-winning Film director, Writer and actress as well as activist against domestic violence. I am most proud of film projects and how I was able to cast new talent by giving them a chance to shine. What sets me apart from others is that The art of storytelling has a purpose of spreading awareness on social issues.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When me and my family would spend holidays together and we would all volunteer for the holidays in the soup kitchen giving back to out community.
