Life & Work with Andrew Marshall of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Marshall.

Hi Andrew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Los Angeles California and raised in Atlanta GA, I come from an Afro Latino descent. I’ve always been around music growing up listening to Soul,R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz and Latino music. When I was a kid me and my little brother would know how to beatbox naturally. When I got to middle school I was enrolled in band class. I always wanted to do music. I loved the snare drum but somehow ended up playing the clarinet, and trombone. By the time I went to high school, I didn’t I proceed to do band anymore instead I did track and field. IN 2008 when I was in 12th grade my brother introduced me to Fl Studio. Once I got my hands on it, I would love and cherish it so much. It felt like a gateway for me to express my self and creativity. I would continue to make beats through college as a hobby. One day I had a fellow classmate ask if they could buy a beat from me. At that moment I knew that this was the career and lane I wanted to choose and excel in. So I became a music producer. My beats would get better by the years. I went to a few beat battles during this time. I actually thought I was going to win but this producer had a better mix which sounded better than mine. That encouraged me to learn how to mix and perfect my production. I had a friend that asked me if I want to enhance my skills as a music producer by going to SAE. We went to an oreintation there which sold me the vision of my destiny. I went to SAE in 2019 for one year and became a certified audio engineer aiming to make the best sound for me and artist I work with. Since then Ive worked with multiple independent and major artist, dropped instrumental albums, have sync placements on TV, and several Independent film festival awards in which I was responsible for audio post production. Ive worked in multiple professional studios all over Atlanta. Currently I have an all a female project out now mostly R&B with some afrobeat, latin, house, and hip hop in it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it has not been a smooth ride, lots of ups and downs. There were plenty of times where I’ve felt like I’ve missed big opportunities by simply not knowing or just feeling that I wasn’t up to par for the moment. I also had a few bad sessions as a recording engineer which made the artist deceided to use his own engineer. Another struggle was maintaining clientele and selling beats. Ive done a lot of free work just so I can sharpen my skills and confidence.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Im a music producer /audio engineer. Im also know to work with film directors to help with sound editing, sound design, and film scoring. What makes me most proud is when an artist is satisfied with my work and that they want to conitune to keep working with me.. Some clients have told me that I’ve helped them through dark times in their life and that I encouraged them to keep going and never quit. What sets me apart from others is that I help critique an artist when making a record. instead of just pressing the record button, I actually make sure the artist delivers to the best of their ability. I love helping people become a better version of themselves.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Ive realized when it comes to good luck, Ive always stayed positive in every aspect of who I’m working with and put my all into everything I do. Im always treating people with respect and goodness. By doing so, new blessings would come my way rather it be big or small. I think the bad luck has shaped the way I move forward and who I should deal with people. Ive had a lot bad luck in my life, but God has always kept me alive and pushing through never quitting and staying optimistic.
