Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrews Frimpong.
Hi Andrews, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
First, I want to say a big thank you for this opportunity. I got inspired to be a photographer in 2015 when I was in the Marine Corps. Mitch Narte, a friend of mine asked me if I could be a part of their short film “Night Mare” as the main character. When the short film came out, peopled loved it and gave us the energy to create a second one called “Insomnium”.
From there, I started learning the basics of a camera and I purchased my personal camera Canon t5i.
I was still in the military so I became the camera guy who would take pictures whenever my company had an event. When I got out of the military, I started doing portrait shoots for friends and family and I gradually transitioned into doing paid jobs like weddings and family photoshoots.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
From the time I called myself a professional photographer till now, it’s been nothing but a roller coaster. At some point, I went from shooting a wedding almost every weekend in one month to having nothing in almost two months. I see that as part of the job. It is not always going to be bread and butter and this goes for every professional job.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My goal is to make every client feel celebrated. When people ask what kind of photographer I am, I usually answer with “well, I shoot everything”. I am a wedding photographer and videographer who is specialized in engagement sessions, family portraits, birthday shoots and weddings.
I love trying creative things in a fast-paced environment. I adapt to any given situation and try to bring the beauty out that is already there.
Without light, there is no photography.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Energy!
A lot of professionals and hobbyists say it’s down to the photographer. Without the passion and vision of someone who knows their aperture from their shutter speed, there’s only so much a good camera can do.
