Life & Work with Angel Krause

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Krause.

Angel Krause

Hi Angel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never know how to really answer this question. The ‘tell me about yourself’ type of questions. My life is shaped from all kinds of things, including grief and trauma. So much of my story consists of disappointment and struggle. Doing content was a way to sort of escape that. I started doing YT when I realized I was struggling with self-identity. It started post-partum, after the birth of my son. Women are put in a box (a very small one) as to who they are allowed to be when they’re also a mom. So, I started a YouTube channel about being an honest mom. This turned into the realization that I really wasn’t doing things I was passionate about. I didn’t read or write anymore. I didn’t prioritize horror movies like I used to. I didn’t have a lot of people in my day-to-day life that loved horror. I didn’t want the desire to enjoy horror on a social level to die, so I started a horror YT channel, Voices From the Mausoleum! It was through doing that I finally gained enough courage (and support) to also invest more time in my writing. Since 2022, I’ve put out my own collection of stories, a novella, and four anthologies. Now I engaged heavily in an incredible community that I spend a lot of time boosting and supporting.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the biggest struggles I’ve dealt with have just been life things. From sickness to divorce, managing mental health and physical health while also putting out content and trying to write can be a hard thing to balance. I had to ask my co-host what he thought might be a good answer for this, and he also mentioned how we view ourselves can impact the voice in our head, which reflects in our confidence to do certain things. Feeling like such a small channel, reaching out to “bigger” people for interviews feels so nerve-wracking at times, and most of the time, they end up being excited to be a part of the show. I get in my own way sometimes, and I’m still learning how to not do that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a horror content creator and an Indie horror author. I specialize in being myself and focusing on support Indie names in writing, filmmaking, and content creating. If I had to say something I think I’m known for, I get tagged a lot in posts about found footage movies. Otherwise, I have no idea. I love so much of what I do I can’t pick just one thing I’m the most proud of. I’m super proud of the anthologies I’ve put out with Indie writers. A lot of those are first-time publications, and the idea that I can give a new author their first publication is such an incredible feeling. I’m not too different from others in my close-knit group. We all aim to create a more fun and inclusive space for everyone who enjoy the genre.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m supposed to put that in writing?!? I’m a pretty open book. Some might even say too much so. The only thing I can think of would be that I was a cheerleader. I don’t know that I exude the sort of energy one might have to cheer? But it was only for one season when I was eight. I also took piano for three years.
