Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Mathis.
Hi Angela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Athens (go Dawgs!). My wonderful family still resides there. Growing up, I was incredibly shy and uncertain about my path in life. I read a lot as a child – I mean a LOT. It sparked my imagination and instilled in me a deep-seated desire to explore different cultures, meet diverse people, and embrace the notion that my potential was boundless.
While I gave the college scene a brief shot, it quickly became apparent that it wasn’t for me. At 22, I enlisted in the Air Force and served as a helicopter medic for five years with a year-long tour in South Korea. I quickly learned that dangling from a helicopter was more my speed than sitting in a study hall. I cherish the overall experience, particularly the difficult moments that have enriched my ability to connect with others on a profound, human level.
The experience taught me resilience and independence, proving that I could thrive in any corner of the world, even when flying solo. One of my most recent adventures was a two-week road trip through Ireland and Northern Ireland in a Mini Cooper, with the tunes of U2 keeping me company along the way. I have a soft spot for cats, Korean cuisine, ballroom dancing (especially bachata), crafting, and anything that sparkles with glitter.
I’ve been in the art industry for 11 years. For the past 7 years, I have served as an Account Executive at Colorchrome, marking the longest and most fulfilling chapter of my professional career. The dynamic and ever-changing landscape of the art industry keeps me engaged, constantly pushing me to seek fresh challenges and opportunities for growth.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I suppose you could say it’s been fairly smooth. My biggest challenge has been overcoming my own self-doubt and criticism. In my twenties, I struggled with feeling like not having a college degree somehow diminished my worth. With time, I have grown to value my personal experiences and unique insights. That realization cleared many obstacles that once stood in the way of both my personal life and career advancement. The very traits that I see as flaws are often the same ones that set me apart.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Colorchrome prints everything from artwork to wallpaper to banners, window and floor graphics. We custom frame art, we fabricate three dimensional artworks, we have an in-house spray booth and woodworking department. We have an amazing team of really talented people working together to create beautiful things every day. And we have fun doing it!
I have gotten to work on so many amazing projects and truly have the best clients. I have partnered with incredible artists like Janice Rago and Mr. Wattson, worked with amazing designers and art consultants like Whitaker Art Consulting, and collaborated with personalities like Lil Jon and Anitra Mecadon on episodes of the HGTV show, “Lil Jon Wants to Do What”. I oversaw the fine art program during the construction of the Atlanta Braves stadium in 2017 and, for many years, worked on the Colorchrome team who produces the artwork and graphics for Starbucks…the list goes on. Working with my clients is not only a pleasure but also a source of inspiration. I am truly grateful to have such amazing people in my inner circle, and I consider myself extremely fortunate.
I recently was able to collaborate with artist Greg Ellis, whom some readers may know as the Lazer Shark with Pretty Lights Music, on scanning and reproducing his original paintings. We have a new machine that can print texture and gloss, and Greg was among the first to utilize that technology. The results were simply gorgeous and we are having so much fun exploring everything we’re able to create with it!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to have an incredible support network. My parents, in particular, have embraced my unique personality since the day I was born. In addition to them, I have been surrounded by exceptional teachers, mentors, colleagues, and friends who have guided me, cheered me on, and, most importantly, allowed me to be authentically myself. One individual who stands out is Jennifer, our VP of Sales and Marketing at Colorchrome. Her unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in my decision to remain with the company for the long haul.
If you’re in the market for art and graphics solutions, custom framing or art fabrication, give me a call, I’m your girl! I love helping clients take their ideas to the next level.
