Life & Work with Anthony Whiting of Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Whiting.

Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from Clearwater, FL, I relocated to Atlanta with my family, bringing with me a lifelong passion for basketball. For years, it was my identity—until 2010, when the season ended and I found myself searching for a new outlet. That’s when I picked up a camera for the first time in college. With no formal training, I taught myself photography through trial and error, starting with landscapes and urban street scenes before discovering a love for live concerts.

In 2015, I was regularly lining up hours early to shoot artists like Curren$y and Kid Cudi at the Masquerade in Atlanta. A repost from Curren$y’s Instagram gave me the confirmation I needed to keep going. From 2015 to 2018, I worked with the media team at A3C Festival and began building strong industry connections. In 2019, I landed a booking at Essence Festival, where I met Trell Williams—host of the ‘Black Excellence Brunch’ with Tina Knowles—which led to my first publication. That opened the door to opportunities with AT&T’s ‘Dream in Black’ campaign, including coverage of the Revolt Summit in both Atlanta and Los Angeles.

Now, over a decade into my photography journey, I can say with full confidence: consistency, belief in myself, and genuine connection have carried me further than I ever imagined.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my most recent challenges comes from balancing the time you invest in your business and the time you spending pouring into yourself. In the beginning, your passion is not transactional. Once it starts to provide an income, sometimes it’s tough to find a healthy balance between watering the business and pouring into yourself. Always find a way to remind yourself of why you fell in love with the craft, everything else will fall in place.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in events and action shots. In my opinion, my best work comes from candid shots. Capturing my subject in the moment, especially in a fast-paced setting and giving them the opportunity to relive that moment through a still image is something I can say I’m proud of. My turnaround time is usually within 48 hours. The photos with always be high quality, and I feel that is what sets me apart from others.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Do it scared. That’s it. The stars won’t always align, so just take action. Everything else will fall in line.
