Today we’d like to introduce you to Antwon Harris.
Hi Antwon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Antwon Harris, native of Clarksville, TN. I started my journey of speaking and education at the age of 5 when I spoke to the Board of Education about my dreams. First on that list was a basketball player. I fulfilled that dream and beyond by earning multiple accolades which include 1 st Team All-American, MVP and Hall of Fame inductee for the National Junior College Athletic Association. I continued my career playing Division 1 basketball at Winthrop University, then several years of professional/semi pro basketball. After sports, like a lot of athletes, I struggled to transition into the working world. It took me years to understand who I was outside of basketball. I coached basketball but later found a passion in teaching. One thing that I did know about myself is that I was unique and different in my approach in a lot of things, especially how I taught classes. Another experience that was instrumental to my journey was taking the DISC assessment for the first time in 2017. That tool was of great significance on my path to self-discovery. Sometime after taking the DISC Assessment, I realized that I have a passion for education, and then I began “Reimagining the Future of Education,” which is a phrase I’ve coined. Generally speaking, “Reimagining the Future of Education” entails stepping away from the traditional model of education, which is ineffective for some students. I’ve been doing this type of work for decades, however, in 2019 I started to be more intentional about my work. Years of leadership roles in family, playing sports, and career opportunities have prepared me for where I am today. Also, the unfortunate circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic ignited me to take action. My first step was self-improvement in various facets of my life. Following that, I began creating value and building authority in the education space. Getting certified as a DISC assessment practitioner fostered the growth and development that was necessary to officially embark upon the journey to become an educational consultant.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey has been filled with peaks and valleys. Some of the struggles included working with little to no budget, figuring out my target audience, and finding the right business model. The idea of not having a bi-weekly check was a challenge as well. Taking totally control of your career, income, and retirement isn’t for the faint of heart.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a consultant in education. I help schools “Reimagine the Future of Education”. I specialize in creating curriculum, professional development and programs in education. My current programs with schools and companies include leadership development, teacher development, and student development. The programs are in multiple schools in multiple states. I’m known for the Self Equity program. I am most proud of the journey and who I’ve become in the process and of my ability to become and remain committed, disciplined, and consistent, which is my “CDC to Success.” Coupling that with adaptability and flexibility has allowed me to create my own lane and thrive. Lastly, I will be releasing a self-help
book later in 2023.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve learned many interesting lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis. When the Covid crisis hit is when I hit the ground running with my business. I was building while still teaching. The knowledge of self is the most important pillar of education.
